low tire light

my low tire light came on today(i had to look in the manual to see what the light meant) and all four had 25#. i put them up to 40 but the light is still on . i guess i need to unhook the negative to reset it. has anyone else ran into this?

Drive it for a while at highway speeds, the light should go off.

Recommended is at least 35psi. Some people here are running around 38-42 for better highway mileage.

Mine occasionally comes on at 34 psi too, but it only seems to happen on a cold day. Manual says that the sensors should turn on the warning at or below 28 psi. I have always just overfilled them (40-42psi) and gone for a drive. Sensors work above 20 mph...and it takes about a mile or two to turn off the light, then I let them back down to 35-36 psi (cold).

Mine came on last week when it got down to around 40 - checked the tires and they were all 25psi - left it alone and within a few days the light went out. Figured it was just the cold that made them go down. It was at the dealer this past Monday and they should have checked the tire pressure and fixed if they were low. I haven't checked again to find out if they're back up to where they should be.

Basically what everyone else said, I got up this past Sat. morning to go hunting, as you know Sat. was probably one of the coldest days of the year so far. I had driven less than a mile down the road when the alarm and the light came on. I pulled over and checked the tires and they looked ok, on the way home the temp went up and about half way home [20 miles] the light went out. I checked the tires and they all had around 32 psi. I aired them all up to 36.
I think if you drive the truck enough and the tires are aired up ok the light will eventually go out by itself.

Seems like I will have a constant alert because I like to drive on 28 PSI always, no matter what condition, on or off road...

To me going above 36 PSI its just to rought on the ride...

I rather have less tire life by going on 28 PSI but having a smooth ride..

Earlier this week with the cooler temps, my light also came on. I checked the pressure and all were around 30 PSI on my reader. Stopped by the gas station and put them all to 38 PSI. Drove about 1/4 mile and the light went off.

It's about more than tire life, it is also about safety. Everyone here should read this:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete...l/pressure.jsp

And this: From another tire company...

Correct tire pressure is very important. Driving on any tire that does not have the correct inflation pressure is dangerous. Proper inflation pressure for your tires may be found in the vehicle owner's manual or the vehicle's tire information placard.

Any underinflated tire builds up excessive heat that may result in sudden tire destruction.

Refer to the tire placard on the vehicle (check vehicle and/or vehicle owners manual for placard location) for the recommended operating pressures. These pressures must be maintained as a minimum. Do not exceed the maximum pressure indicated on the tire sidewall of passenger car tires.

It just started to get cold here in NC and my tire light came on. The buzzer scared the crap out of me. It lasted for a long time and at first I had no idea WTF was going on. I stopped by the gas station and filled them up to 40 and the light went off in a few miles. It has been off since.

After reading this, I will set my tires to 34 PSI early in the morning, at the coldest point of the day, with the car parked in the garage for the whole night....

THX for the advise and link...

You Should Run Your Tire Pressures Around 34-36 Psi, Keep In Mind That When The Tire Gets Warm With Driving, The Pressures Will Increase A Couple Pounds

I read somewhere, either in the owners manual or on the tires that they will take a max of 44 lbs. I keep mine at 42 to try to get the best gas mileage. I tried driving with 36 lbs of pressure and really didn't notice any difference in the ride quality, so I think I'll keep mine on the high end of the suggested pressure.
