Weight On Tailgate

I am likely going to load a snowmobile on my T this winter. Will be using a ramp. I would guess the snowmobile weighs around 800lbs. Question is how much weight cant the tailgait handle? I have the crew cab and likely the arse of the snowmob. will rest on the gate. I am concerned about the plastic cover on the inside of the tailgate. Would it brake? Has anyone hauled anything that heavy and had any tailgate probs, bending, warping, etc?

I load my Moto Guzzi motorcycle into the Titan using ramps. The bike weighs about 600lbs. The rear tire rests right on the tailgate. The first time I had it in the back for a 4 hour trip and the plastic was bent out of shape. In a few hours the plastic was back to normal. On the next trip out I placed a small sheet if 1/4" plywood to spread out the weight of the rear tire and that did the trick. If you are concerned about it I would use a sheet of 1/2" plywood the length of the rear track. I would do the same thing for M1A1 tanks and captured T72 tanks we would haul in our C5-A.

I have a Polaris 500 Sportsman quad, most of the time I haul it on my utility trailer but I have loaded it in the back of the truck a couple of times. No problem with the ramps on the tailgate. My truck is a K/C so I can close the tailgate on mine.
I wouldn't be overly concerned about the rear end of the snowmobile resting on the tailgate, I had a Tacoma double cab previously and the rear wheels of my quad rested on the tailgate of it with no problems.
Just be prepared to be bright lighted a lot, because it will raise the front end of your truck a little.

Can you take the tailgate off and load the snow mobile with the ramps directly onto the bed?
If that is not an option, then prob. go with a small utility trailer. They can be had brand new for around $500 or you can probably find a used one for picket change. Just change the wheel bearings before you use it.

I have been loading quads on and off since February without any problems. The problem is in trans porting. I have one quad upright behind the cab and the other sits normally (on all 4s) behind the other, with the REAR wheels (about 150-200 lbs) on the tailgate.

After maybe... 5000 road miles with this configuration, the tail gate is sagging in the middle, AND the worse part... the hinges / brackets have bent under the load. I have the support straps in addition to the factory wire straps on the tail gate, but the hinges and the L brackets back there don't seem to be up for the challenge.

if mine bowed in the middle under the a$$ end of a 400lb quad, then yours under an 800 lb. snowmobile will probably bow worse or atleast more quickly over a shorter period of time.
I have yet to damage the 'bedliner' part of the plastic that is mounted on the inside of the tailgate, but I have replaced the cap on the tailgate already when it broke from loading and unloading. The tailgate cap was less than $20 and snaps right in so don't worry too much about that.
