Titan helps with speeding ticket

I know in the past some have had good luck with tickets and the Titan.. here's my experience...

Going down a hill, zoning, my fuzzbuster goes nuts... I see the cop and slow down... see him pulling a uturn... pull right over.

He comes up and says I was doing 68 in a 55... asks how fast I thought I was going... I said:

"When my detector went off I looked and was doing about 65..."

He said "usually with one of those it's slam bam done deal, but I'll drop it down to 65 so it doesn't affect insurance... have you had any tickets in the last year?"

I said "no, I know I had one a couple years ago..."

He goes back to the car... I'm thinking "wow.. he's being really nice..."

He comes back, gives me the ticket, explains how to pay, etc.. all super nice. He says "you did have a ticket 3 years ago..." I said "ya, it was the same situation, going down a hill, not paying attention, and getting pegged.." He lauged and said it's common in that area... he was being really cordial and nice..

Then, the reason..

"How do you like your truck? Does it ride smooth?"

I explained I loved it, etc... Them made the comment "It has one problem... it seems to speed up to much going down hills like the one back there.."

He chuckled and said "actually, a lot of cars do, which is why I don't mind cutting it down a little... Man, that is a nice truck..."

Anyhoo, I'd say the Titan had a little to do with cutting down the ticket (still $102... man... that sucks). Not to mention it was shining like a Christmas penny since I had just waxed and washed the day before.

A certain Sheriff deputy where I live saw my Titan in the grocery store parking lot and came by to talk. He said his buddy just bought one and that he really liked it. He asked me for my honest opinion about my truck, and I told him that it was the best vehicle I'd ever owned. We shot the breeze for a little while longer, and I took off.

About a week later, I started to pass an unmarked Durango on the highway. I was probably going 75 in a 55 when I noticed it was the cop. He just looked over and motioned for me to slow down. That's it - no ticket!

I don't know if our converstion about the Titan had anything to do with it, but I'm sure it couldn't have hurt. Or it could have been the fact that about a year earlier, I was the only one who stopped to help him on the side of the road after he hit a deer while on duty.

Got stopped twice for speeding, once by Louisiana State Trooper who snuck up behind me (radar detector never went off, so I suspect he clocked me doing 80 in a 70 by his speedometer), the second by a motorcycle officer in Copperas Cove, TX doing 48 in a 40 (like a dummy I silenced my radar detector and several blocks down the road forgot it was going off and he got me).

Both times the officers spent more time looking over my Titan than worrying about writing a ticket and both times I got a warning ticket. So far the Titan has paid off for me.

What I thought was funny was I called the "fine line" to see how much to pay.

1-10 over,$102
11-20 over, $122
and so on... I couldn't believe there wasn't much difference between 10 and 20 over.

Of course, it does save you a LOT on insurance when it's 10 or under.

Maybe I could write off the ticket since I was on the way to the bank to deposit checks from my business... LOL!

I wanna know what state you're in that 10 MPH doesn't effect your insurance! Here in NY, 1 MPH over is "speeding" and your insurance goes up.

Minnesota. 1-10 over doest affect.. that's why I normally drive 7-10 over on highway rides... Not to mention if you get enough warning with the fuzzbuster 90% of the time you can slow to where they won't bother. 2 tickets in 15 years. Both were just me being stupid and not paying attention.

I Blamed The Truck

I got pulled over a few weeks ago for speeding as well. I got clocked 82 in a 55. In all fairness I was going way too fast but I had just overtaken a semi when he nailed me and he took that into consideration.

I had all my paperwork ready for him and then he started asking me about the truck, how the ride was, power ect. I told him that the truck wants me to make it go fast. The damn thing is almost as fast as my TransAm I used to have. I blamed the whole thing on the truck. He got a good laugh from that.

After he checked my driving record and everything came back in order I politely asked if he could give me a break. I'll be damned if he didn't say OK. He was checking out the truck while writing me out the warning. How's that for dumb luck??

The moral of the story is that not all cops are assholes.

I just ordered the specialty slain officer college fund plates here in NJ. They didn't have Military veteran plates - so it was the next best cause to donate to.

They may also keep me in good graces in the event of a citation stop...

Its not the truck or the plates.... Police have wide discretionary powers. If you work the road long enough as a cop, nothing anyone can tell you will change whether the officer is going to write the ticket or not. Most of the time you just need to pass the attitude test... ie; don't get aggressive with the officer, be polite no matter what. Most good road officers will write warnings unless some other circumstance warrants a ticket. Also, most officers are very polite but firm on traffic stops. Don't take that as the officer is impressed by your truck or you. After thousands of traffic stops we have heard it all. The only time I'm impressed is when the driver is female and naked (yes that happens and she still got a ticket). The only license plates that make a difference to me are FOP tags, providing the driver is an officer and even that depends on the offense.

Angry

The real moral is only morons do 30 or over the speed limit and think they deserve a break. Sorry but I work for the State Police and take offense to your comment

Well, I've only gotten one ticket in my 22 years of driving experience (don't count prior to age 16). The others I've always gotten out of and not because I was flashing him my green eyes or anything else...I guess I've just been lucky. I've only had one wreck as well, and that was 2 1/2 years ago. BUT, with the power I have in my new Titan, I have to be very careful to not have the heary foot. And I agree with the officer above, if you're speeding and you get a ticket, obviously you deserved it, breaking the law warrants a ticket. Most people get mad at getting a ticket, but not mad at the officer, mad at THEMSELVES for getting caught!

Gee, I wonder if anyone with the knowledge here can explain ticket quotas and how most are given in the first and last few days of the month, some of which are given to those not speeding but will swear in court otherwise. Other than that, I'm sure MOST are legit, upstanding citizens with a job to do like everyone else.
