What the heck is this?

While I was installing my sidesteps/running boards today..(Swish ) I was shutting my rear door on my crew crab and I heard a banging noise. I went over to the passenger side and looked down between the truck bed and the cab.

I shut the door again and noticed a square about 6x6 Inches on the back of the cab. Everytime I shut the door it looked like a flap came out....Kind of like a Dog door. Any ideas???

My 02 Frontier had that also. It's to relieve the inside pressure so you don't have to slam the door when you close it.

Yep, Mine has it too. There's what feels like a vent behind the back passanger side seat. Probably for heat venting or something of that sort to keep the cabin from becoming stale, or perhaps some sort of pressure release . Other than that and I have no idea.

Edited due to out of order thoughts. Happens when you get older and your 6yr old is talking to you while you type.

I'm glad you guys posted this cause I was wondering the same thing. Kind of bugged me that the rear passengers side CC door was making that sound every time 4 year old slams it.

THANKS FOR THE INFO

ICE

all cars have this feature . it is for pressure release . my 1992 toyota tercel had it in the trunk. i used to have a set of subwoofers in the trunk and there was a severe rattle coming from it evertime the bass hit. i found the source it was that damn flap. and my 2000 jeep grand cherokee had it to

My understanding is the vent relieves pressure in the cabin in the event of an airbag deployment. Could be wrong..?
