05 Tacoma?

Looking for some help about getting a new truck. I'm in high school and soon getting my first auto, I wish i could buy a newer car like the new stang but a truck is needed to tow and we also need the bed. I was loving the Titian but gas mileage has me worried so I have been looking at the new tacomas and they look pretty nice.

What are your thoughts of the new tacoma against your titans? I would love a full sized truck but I think it will be a little too expensive with gas and insurance and what not. The tacomas maximum towing cap. is 6500 which is plenty and im sure it will fullfill my needs but a new tacoma with options I want is at the high 20s, worth it?

Thanks for your opinions!

If you need something economical and the Tacoma will suit your needs, then you'd be wise to go that way. These vehicles aren't cheap on gas, but then, I don't know what the Tacoma is rated at. If the mileage is similar, I think you can get a Titan king cab for in the low to mid 20's.

Good luck!

as a high school dude, I would highly recommend you get a tacoma as my nephew has one and all he has done it change the oil over the last five years while he was in college a 99 tacoma. Toyota make great small trucks that require very little maintenace. they are expensive though--but your insurance wil be cheaper with a v6

if not the tacoma (which look real nice to me) why not a 05 frontier

Wait for the new Frontier to come out and go drive it. Its' interior and engine are much better than the Tacos. Nissan has Toyo running scared now. All of a sudden now they are copying the rail system and "special" bed (although not a spray-in liner). I do like the Tacos looks but the Frontier is sharp. I just wish they offered a long bed option. Not so much for the room but, it looks kinda chopped off in short bed form. The Titan can get away with it because of its' size I guess.

only you can decide if it's worth it, but the 6 cylinder tacoma's mileage isn't much better than the titan's (16/20 range). for me, a titan is cheaper for insurance than a tacoma.

I also like the look of the pror generation frontier over the 05 however, while toyotas 4.0 v6 is probably ecellent, ive driven almost every form the vq v6 is offerd in except the 05 fronty an pathfinder, drive the tacoma an frontier back to back and the new frontier might just grow on you! The vq is awsome!!!

KevinTitan,
Wow, I had the same questions. Tundra Double Cab vs. Titan Crew Cab vs. New Tacoma Double Cab. I opted for the Titan and here is why in order of improtance for me:
**Price...titan much better bang for the buck. I could get the Titan for a lower price than the Tundra and new Tacoma.
**Size...Wanted something big with room for my family and friends.
**Power...I owned the Tundra and did not want to go from a V8 to a V6.
**Interior...Wanted to have power and 6-disc CD.
**Gas milage...The Tundra and Tacoma were pretty similiar and the Tian was pretty close as well. The money savings in the truck iteself, far out weighed and cost saving by better MPG.

You may also want to check out www.tundrasolutions.com
Good site with Tundra and Tacoma info.

I don't like the nickname taco. Seems to give off a racial type of meaning to the truck/company and it might offend some people.

I'll show you the picture of my gf's 05 Tacoma soon. I'm just lazy to post it online.

she won't drive it until she gets the floormats. lol

Philipyang-Never heard of the term taco offending anyone before. It is used quite often in the toyota forums. Please forgive my ignorance. I have gone back and edited my post.

How in the hell do high school kids even think about deciding between a Tacoma and a Titan. In high school, I was deciding between a rusty corolla and a rusty buick. Both were ancient. I came from a well-off family. Now, my teenage employees are driving Pathfinders and 300Ms and all this other stuff. My hat's off to you guys if you can swing a Tacoma or a Titan.

I also considered the tacoma 05 and the tundra. Test drove them both. I have to say the tundra has an awesome carlike ride. Had it not been foir the price I would be driving a tundra right now. Reasons why I bought the T:
1: with the 1% apr and the below invoice price the T was a way better deal. I also wanted the VSC which is not available on 05 tacoma and tundra in minnesota. At least thats what the dealer told me,
2:Nissans have been good to me. Since 1994 my wife and I have owned 2 nissan pickups, two sedans my previous xterra and have never been to a repair shop
3: Although I love the impecable reputation of reliability of toyota the Tundra interior appeared dated, very few options for the price.
5: interior space. The T has'em beat there. No contest. The tacoma , although increased in size, still felt claustrophobic.

But then again, it depends on your particular situation. I have a family that will keep growing and need the space for the car seat. Of course in H.S you don't have those worries. If i were in high school( and could afford a new truck) I would probably go for smaller, economical tacoma. The tacoma is an awesome truck if you dont really need full size.

Good luck with your choice.
P.S. Man, what a dilemma for a high schooler: a choice b/t a brand new cool a$$ truck and another new C-A truck. My first car was a old beat up toyota hatchback, had to start it with a screw driver b/c the ignitiuon switch broke. Ohh, those were the days.
