Thumbs up The Devil made me do it.

There isn't to many Titans around me so I spotted a King Cab (SE I think) tonight. 2 guys driving around the new truck. About 10 minutes later, I spotted them parked at a Walgreen's parking lot admiring the truck. They then spotted me and started pointing. Well, I couldn't let that pass. I had to show them what their new toy could do.

Man, I left about a 4 second burnout that was loud enough to pull in the local Barney Fife. I really didn't think I could do one that good. I've never really peeled out except for about 3 very short spirts, just to see if it had it in it. I usually quickly let off the gas before it got loud and obnoxious. NOT THIS TIME. When it started burning out at about 33% throttle I just took it to about 70% before I let off. No backing off this time. Man, I really didn't think I could leave muscle car tire tracks with this thing. Now I'm really wondering if it's under rated considering my '96 Camaro had 200 HP and 225 ft/lbs of torque. Equalizing the weights out, the truck should have the power of that same Camaro with 202 HP and 250 ft/lbs of torque. Only about 25 more foot pounds. I can tell you this, that Camaro never came to a burn out or even the quickness this truck can. It's already a light weight truck due to it's aluminum block so I don't think it's any lighter than the 5046# it's rated at. I have to think that the engine has quite a bit more power than Nissan is letting on. Maybe to do with the Nater factor of weight vs. HP?

All I can say is that I'm happy.

Have a good one.

Nice burnout. I can't even get that close with my truck even if i tried.

IMO, I consider Nissan's HP and TQ ratings to be very conservative. If they recalculated the HP and TQ numbers, they would probably gain a little bit more.

I guess they didn't want public to be left with a feeling of a weak engine since their expectations would've been higher if say the truck was rated at 345HP.

Why not set the public expectations low at 305HP379TQ and let them be happy when they figure they got a more powerful engine at the expense of a simple statistic competition w/ dodge/ford/chevy etc.

who knows, i can have my foot in my mouth for saying all this. hahahaha

Thanks, but you may have a disadvantage. Doesn't California restrict the type of fuel that's used and also demands an engine that's retuned for pollution control?

I remember over the years looking at vehicles and California versions were always lower HP and I know mixed fuels offer worse combustion. Here in the Calumet/Chicago area, we our one of the most poluted areas in the world. During Summer, we use Ethynol mixed fuel. I had to go to 89 octane just to keep spark knock out of my cars.

Also perhaps I hit a oil spot . I don't think so.

Have a good one.

I don't think trucks need to conform to CA emissions like cars do. My sticker says 50 STATE LEGAL EMISSIONS. Here in NY, a lot of cars carry the CA EMISSIONS as well.

The engine ratings are fine. Your ability to do a burnout, as juvenile as it is (yea yea, pot.kettle.black), doesn't mean the motor is a ringer or anything. I was able to spin the tires through all of 2nd gear in my old Sentra SE-R Spec V, and that only had 175hp and 180tq. It has more to do with the tires, weight over the driven wheels (or lack of in this case), and the fact that it's a truck that has most of the torque in the bottom end of the RPM range.

I haven't been able to do a good smokey burnout. Mine seems to have the potential to do it, but the anti-slip always kicks in after a little wheel spin starts.

Keep in mind that its a truck, and as such, has nothing on the rear wheels. My Silverado has a touch over 1800 on the rears and damn near 3000 on the fronts. The whole of the engine is supported up front.

Mike,
You never did say if Officer Fife actually wrote you a ticket.

QWIK
Also, consider the stock XE tire width is 245mm, OR 285, others 265.
Rubber compound and air pressure too are variables to consider.

Barney never came, I lucked out.

His SE doesn't have the Off-Road package so it has the little tires. My XE does have the Off-Road package and has the 285's. Also they were aired up to 35 psi, just checked.

Here in Chicago it's moderate temperature, so the tires and pavement aren't as hot/sticky as they would be in hot temps. In hotter temps I may have only had a 2 second burn out. Also, the pavement might had been smooth at that spot, but then again, that 4 second burn out could had been longer if I didn't let up on the gas.

Have a good one.
