Sorry to hear that bad luck hit has struck you twice. I got my first, (and hopefully last), hit on the way home from work last night.
My Titan took $1,375 of damage, (the estimate), from a hit-n-run,
low-life.
I had been though some real pea-soup fog and had come into a pretty clear area and was feeling relieved to be out of the thick stuff.
I pulled up to the stop sign and was waiting to make a left turn, and some type of suv, (like a maybe a blazer), was coming from my left down the highway that I was about to turn on. I had to wait for it and the car behind it to cross in front of me, before I could turn on to the hwy. but at the last second
low-life decides to make a right turn on to my road.
One of
low-life's right tires hit the Titan's passenger side bumper, (yep the passenger's side!), and then the suv continued though a field and eventually back to the road I had been on. He was probably going 40 MPH when he hit the bumper, bending it back so my right tire would rub. So I couldn't tail
low-life for the CHP. I don't know what the penalty is for hit-n-run, but with the only injuries being to my Titan, probably not severe enough.
Anyway the tow truck guy unbolted the bumper's brace on that side and pulled it out far enough so I can drive it. The plastic end section of the bumper was in about 5 pieces behind the truck in a pile. The bumper has dimples and holes for clips or screw, cutouts for the fogs, and contours under these cowls, so anyone thinking of removing them as a cosmetic mod, don't.
A few more inches and I probably would have been getting plummeted with air-bags because
low-life was really moving. I don't remember feeling hardly anything but I knew I was hit. From the looks of the damage, if I'd been in the Camry or the Caravan, it would have taken the fender and maybe the hood too.
This is one of the reasons I got a big truck. Big trucks have big bumpers and the Titan's bumper is one big piece of steel.
Anyway guys, I didn't cry, but I almost did when my wife reminded me there's a deductible.
