Looking for advice on a Titan.......

Hey all,

I was dead set on purchasing a Titan when I saw my first one on the street early in 2004; I said to myself when its time to buy a new vehicle in 2005 the Nissan Titan was going to get my buck. As I begin to prepare & research for a February purchase, I am reading some concerning issues with the Titan on this forum and others (ie. radio fade, bedliner bubbling, various rattles, etc). After reading all the problems you guys have ran into, I am beginning to second guess myself regarding the Titan.

I am asking for your reply, both positive and negative experiences alike. Will the 05 Titan have the bugs worked out? Will only similar problems arise as new features are added (rear window in CC)? Will I be on first name basis with the Nissan Service Manger? These are just a few concerns that I am worried about if I purchase a 2005 Titan.

Thank you for your reply!

I does seem like the newer 05 have many of the bugs fixed. Too early to say if they all have been addressed. You will always see periodic problems, since that is what people come here for...solutions or to rant.

I wouldnt hesitate to pick up an 05!

Ruffneck Boy, I was just the opposite of you. I was dead set on the 2004 F150 and waited for it to come out. As soon as I was about to get the F150 I investigated the Titan. Having owned two F150's it wasn't an easy sell. The Titan is clearly superior. I fall into the same trap as a lot of my friends and expect a a car to be PERFECT and they just aren't. I have never regretted buying the Titan and don't think you will either. Mine was an early 2004 and I am sure they are just getting better and better.

My 05

I only have 500 miles on my 05 CC 4x4 Off Road LE Loaded. I don't have any problems but brake dust (Clean wheels every 150 miles or they are black) My radio is wonderful. (I also have an 04 Z Roadster with BOSE and it sucks). I don't have any rattles, or wind noise. My engine does not stall at first, it's just pure power. My bedliner looks great, but its still new.

The Nissan Titan is going to be the second most reliable truck on the road. Toyota is going to be more realiable, but its just not a TRUCK like the Titan is. My wifes Sequoia has 9,000 miles on it and the only thing you have to do to it is change the oil.

Ford/Chevy/Dodge will be alot less reliable than a Nissan. Not only that F/C/D feel old after they get about 15,000 miles on them. The steering lossens up, the doors creak. They just age fast. Nissan has its problems, but it fixes them fast. The Z Roadster had top problems for all Roadster born in the first 3 months (Which was mine) but they quickly found the problem and paid $4,850 to put a new top and a new top motor into my Z.

If you can live with a Truck that drives like a Camry, then by all means get the Toyota, (heck it even looks good), but if you want a FULL size truck feel, Nissan Is the Best choice.

Perfection is an illusion.
And asking total strangers for their opinion is as Mike says, "ludicrous".
Research your other 4 choices in full size pickups and then come back and ask your questions.(if there are any by then)

Also very late 04s have the issues fixed. 09/04+ build dates.

I broke mine like that when I installed my radar. It wasn't fully seated for some reason, when I tighted it down, bam it cracked around the hole up front. I reseated it, put a large washer and put the bolt back on, and its solid again, but you do see the hairline cracks. At least its hidden behind the sunglass holder.

Ruffneck Boy,

I am in the same boat as you are but I have been researching and reading this website for about 3 months. From what it seems to me is that out of all of the Titans that are out there some have problems but they seem to be the earlier Titans in 04. I have not seen any post that indicate that the later 04's have any problems and also none of the 05's (it might be to early tell that). I am going to pick my Titan up in March not for any particular reason but from what I have read and seen Nissan seems like it is very solid and I think my main concern is what dealership to pick it up from, it looks like alot of the problems have been service department issues after purchasing the truck. I think it is a solid choice with the Titan

I too have a 2005 LE CC with about 500 miles. It is a very tight and solid feeling truck. Very pleased with this vehicle and now it is time for it's first wash...especially the wheels <grin>

I understand your concern on the trucks reliability but I don't think just looking on this board would fully give you a full understanding on how other trucks are doing as well.

Try looking at the ford, dodge, and chevy boards and all of them have major problems with transmission, engine, etc.

A majority of us have minor cosmetic issues with the truck ranging from squeeks to dirty oil.

I think the Titan gets it #1 in minor problems but will never fail engine wise or tranny IMO

Check into the Dodge Power Wagon..It's a nice truck and already took 4x4 of the year. Might be something to consider. From what I have read it demolished any test put in front of it.
