I didn't have to modify it, But I know what your saying. I had to put the bull bar brackets on above the skid's bracket. Leave them loose so you can wiggle it and try to push it as far to the rear as you can. Put the skid plate on and line up the bolts. It took me a couple of times to get it to line up right and the back of the skid plate was still about a half inch forward so I had to retap a hole for the back two small screws. When you have what you think to be the right place, tighten up the brackets then the plate, you may end up doing this a couple of time. It can be done but takes a little playing. I hope this helps. It took me and my buddy about 2 hrs start to finish and a 6 pack to calm our nerves.
