When does 05 start??

I know January 1st right!!! The question is if a vehicle is made in 2004, When does the vehicle on the assembly line become an 05? Is there a certain month or something why would my truck born in August be an 04 when its now November and 05s are out. did they stop production at somepoint change a couple of letters and numbers in the VIN. Or did they come back from lunch and decide "hey after the silver one that red one starts the 05s " just curious.......

I think it depends on when they get the new model complete and can offer it to the general public. I bought an 2003 Infiniti G35 in April of 02.

IT does indeed depend on the maker and the model. For example..the Titan changed over year in Oct/04. Some manufacturers will actually start building the next model year cars in July. Normally for the change there is actually a shut down/re-tool period to start the production for the next year models. With the '05, not much had to be done as there are really only minor changes (But nice ones!)

the factory should have to retool for each new model year (ie the new tailgait assist needs to be added somewwhere in the assemblt line) thew factory doesn't just say "today looks liek a good day to retool" I'm guessing Nissan planned for a specific date months in advance. they than probably shut down the line for a week or 2 to add the new robots to do new features, (compass, tailgate, etc) they have to design, order, make these new parts too, which takes time.

my guess is the 06's are already on the drawing table.
