Painting rear Diff

My rear Diff paint is pealing. A few of you guys have mentioned re-painting them. What high temp paint are you using, and how are the results? What steps should be taken when re-painting to insure that it will not peal off again?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Jeff

I used regular black spray paint. I used a wire wheel to strip the old crap off and to get the rust off, and sprayed over with plain spray paint. It's been on there for over 4 months and no peeling. It doesn't peel from the heat so much as from poor prepping. The heat just contributes to the cause by heating the dirt and oils between the paint and diff cover and since the paint isnt on good it just lifts away.

I'm thinking of using Bill Hirsch's Miracle paint on my diff cover. That will take care of the rust permanently, but I'm not too sure of it's heat resistance. Does anyone know how hot the diff cover actually gets? I have just sent a question to Hirsch Automotive to inquire about the heat range. IIRC, past threads have mentioned temps of about 185.

Here's a link to Miracle Paint, and there's also a link on that page to Q&A, but that page doesn't mention the heat tolerance.

Mine has some discoloration, I thought maybe I was developing rust but it's just some staining from when I had the fluid changed. Anyways, I picked up some Rustoleum Specialty High Heat spraypaint, says on the can "resists heat up to 1200 degrees". That's the ticket! I'm going to clean mine up and hit it with this stuff.

Is this something that would be covered under the corrosion warranty?
