so i have had the Titan for a few months now and I have not been able to really tell if it has a limited slip dif. I have the Big Tow/Off-Road with the E-Locker but sometimes when it is wet and the truck spins, it seems as if only one tire is spinning. Other times, i can feel the entire rear end of the truck sliding which seems to indicate it has a limited slip. but the more i drive it, the more i think it does not. i really hope this is not the case. but if anyone can shed some light on this, i would appreciate it.

i feel the same way. The only way i would say to know for sure is jack up the rear end and through it in drive and see what happens. If you do decide to try this let me know how it goes. Sorry i couldnt be of any help.
The Titan does not have a limited slip rear end (they're open diffs). It has ABLS (Active Brake Limited Slip) which actually works better than any LSD Nissans come out with. What this does is it uses the trucks ABS brake sensors to detect wheelspin. When one wheel slips, the ABS sensor tells the system to apply brakes to that wheel only. While that wheel is being slowed, power is automatically sent to the opposite wheel. It works great. But the nice thing about it is.....on 4X4 models, this system applys to both FRONT and REAR differentials! So in effect, you have Active Brake Limited Slip front and rear Dana axles!
so why the whole 4X2 Gimick. Is it not a true 4X2 then? AM i asking a stupid question or was i the only one who thought that 4X2 meant posi track in the rear.

Sorry but Eletronic LSD does not work better than a real LSD. My G35 had a real qualified LSD, with VDC as well. And man its a world of a difference especially in the wet.

I can't speak for your G35. I can only speak about any LSD Nissan has used in any of its trucks. The percentage of spin is MUCH higher than the ABLS system thus the ABLS system works far better. I've actually had my 02 Supercharged Frontier 4X4 in 2WD when while stuck in snow...spun the right rear like there was no LSD. Their LSD was useless. I was then told by a Nissan tech that I have to, while holding the Ebrake release, step on the Ebrake to TORQUE the spinning wheel to help send power to the other wheel. BS.....that's what ABLS does! And everyone in the Frontier forum complains about the same thing. I'm not convinced that the system in your G35 wouldn't work better if it had ABLS. But I'd be guessing because I haven't driven one. I also would bet if you had the VDC, you also had some sort of electronic interaction.

All 4X2 means is that it has 4 wheels and 2 of them drive. As opposed to 4X4. You can have the same ABLS system on specially equipped 4X2 models too. But obviously only on the rear.
"so does 4X2 mena posi trac. or does one wheel spin."
If you take off in a straight line, both rear wheels will spin, if you are turning wither way then only one will push the truck.... and this is without ABLS or Traction Control, or any kind of help.... and it is not a posi trac., ust the nature of the beast...
Perfectly straight, then 2 rear wheels, anything else, one wheel. that's open differential as far as I know in our Titans.
Ok guys here is the deal, I tested this on my titan because I was curious myslef. This system we have is better then a mechanical limited slip in some ways and worse in others. Laying a straight hole shot, dry roads, wet, sandy or muddy both wheels spin. Coming around a corner and then gasing it the wheel with the least weight on it spins uslessly like and open rear. ex- left hand turn, rear left wheel will spin. Want to do a smoke show for your buddies? Don't embarass yourself and power brake it, only one wheel spins. Off road worthiness I'm happy to have this over an open diff. any day of the week. Still I'd prefer a mechanical one. You get one wheel in the air or pretty much unweighted dont gas the crap out of it the system wont work, the power of the truck will jsut overide the amount of force the brake can apply causing the unwieghted wheel to still spin uslessly or dig a deeper hole. Gently apply gas and the unweighted wheel will spin a rotation or 2 and the the brake will grab and both wheels will spin together. I have had success with this on several occasions but has failed once or twice. Ripping through deep mud and sand both wheels always spin or all 4 spin if in 4x4 so the system isnt completly usless. Any other questions ask because I'm pretty sure I got this thing figured out. I've tried alot of stuff to see how it works.
ok heres the thing, my truck has the E-Lock so (to my knowledge) it does not have Active Brake Limited Slip or VDC. does this mean i have an open diff???
import2nr, i was thinking of doing that exact same thing, but was hoping someone might know to save me the trouble. i will do that over the Thanksgiving weekend and let everyone know.
So getting the e-lock automatically deletes the VDC. Does it also delete the ABLS ? I know my anti-lock works in 2wd mode, but not sure about 4wd. I have BT+OR+elock LE.
I had a SE 4X4 Xterra with LSD. It worked great. I could always tell when the LSD locked in. Granted, LSD allows a certain % of slip before they engage, so some LSDs may be better than others.
The Titan ABLS is awesome. Just as with a LSD, if your on a smooth, level surface going straight, the wheels will have the same slip, so any LS action won't kick in. However, if the road is wet and your going straight or the road is dry and your turning, the ABLS will definitely kick in. I have seen it work countless times. All you need to look for is the ABLS dummy light blinking as a small % of slip difference is detected. I feel this system is excellent. It's also awesome to have it on the front axle as other trucks only have LS on the rear axles.
I had a '96 Camaro w/o the LSD. I left dual patches(when the darn thing ran right) on easier pavements. It didn't have the power to leave anything on rougher pavements as it got more traction. I thought I had the LSD at first until I realized I wasn't giving it any difference of slip. When the rain and snow hit, that's when I really found I had no LSD.
some salesman at the Nissan dealar around here told my dad and I if you have the e-locker you still have VDC but you cannot select weather or not you want the VDC on or off. It goes off by it automatically when you turn the e-locker on or put it in 4-LO. On our truck 4X4 off road and big tow no e-locker, the vdc automatically goes off when it is put into 4-LO.

All 4X4's have ABLS. VDC is something completely different. VDC is omitted with the E-Locker, most likely because VDC might cause potential harm if activated using a "locked" axle or if the 2 systems are incompatible with each other. You'll still have ABLS. I wouldn't buy the truck if it didn't. You don't drive through snow at 35 mph with the rear diff. locked, but you will need a LSD or ABLS system.
