Thumbs down Rusty Pumpkin

All I can say is I can't wait for the aluminum diff cover to become available. I ordered it from my dealer but they received the regular steel one from Nissan. I think all of them are going to new production for the time being.

It would be nice if Nissan stepped up to the plate and supported us '04 owners with the new cover at no charge but I'm not holding my breath. It just seems weak since I've only towed about 4,000 lbs. maybe 600 miles max and the temperature was high enough to bake the paint. Yes, the fluid level was good when new and I'm currently at about 3,100 miles. Actually, I don't know when the paint came off - I only just noticed it and I haven't towed anything for a couple of months.

Just so no one gets the wrong idea, I'm happy with this truck and other than this, I haven't had any problems. Don't know if this is even a problem but I do want the new cover.

Change the diff fluid Asap. If the paint baked off the pumpkin than you can bet the fluid is shot. I know mine was.

This was bugging me so I went to Grease Monkey last night and had it changed with 75-140 synthetic and, this sounds crazy, but it seems to have smoothed out the drivetrain somewhat. For example, when you trasition the gas on and off it used to be a little bit lumpy but now it is really smooth. It's hard to describe or quantify but it does feel better. Of course it could all be in my mind.

By the way, the fluid was dark but not completely shot. Nissan recommends changing the fluid if you tow in the first 3,750 miles anyway.

When I first got my Titan I came to this sight to get edicated.
During my edicating of me, I discovered the low diff issue.
So luckily I got mine changed to mobil1 before i even hit 500 miles and I still have a nice pretty black cover.

Hey same thing happened to me... It really seemed to smooth out a lot thought I was going a little nuts... Also changed the front diff. to 75w-90 and that seems smoother too....

rumor has it there filled by a mississippian named Bubba Joe labatrioux...

another rumor has it that Bubba Joe rode the little bus to school..

and graduated 3rd grade....twice

as for a real answer to your question..

if it was a machine... we all probably wouldnt have to add gear oil on a new truck..

(unless Bubba Joe programed the computer that runs the machine..)

We just got updated info from Nissan tech dept as follows. They now recommend API GL5 Synthetic 75W-140 Gear Oil in the rear diffs of all Titans and to make the change as early as the first 1000 miles and at 30,000 mile intervals. This info is also in the Assist computers at Nissan dealers. The part # for the 75w140 is 999MP-DF100P and is not on our parts master price list as of yet. Dealers must order it from Nissan Chemicals online or over the phone. No retail price has been released yet but dealer net is $10.49 per qt.
Expect it to be arround 16.00 to 17.00 per qt. retail. I'll be changing mine as soon as my order of gear oil comes in.

Lol Vector 6!!! you would think it is machined filled, but i was thinking that maybe canton management pissed the diff filler off and he may have been trying to seek revenge!! I love nissan i just cant believe they let somthing like this happen among a few other things.
