nissan titan hill descent

I am wondering if the titan does have hill descent mode. I know when i hit the brakes for a second in my 04 with VDC when im going down hill it will down shift but has anyone notice if this works well when going down very steep hills in 4 low?

Gonna have to try that one.next time I go down the driveway...mine is so steep 4 wheel low and first gear keeps me from needing any brakes at all...2 wheel hi and in second gear is what I usually crawl a little faster up the driveway in.unless I'm gonna tow something...then it's back to 4 wheel low and in 1st or 2nd going up the driveway.

The Titans 5 spd tranny does seem to have some sort of hill decent feature we've not been told about (Nissan dealer claims it's in the program of the elec. controlled tranny). Mine will slow me down on a hill without touching the brakes. I haven't driven much in 4LO but, it's so low that I can't imagine needing it to downshift.

The Titan is not particularly low geared, even in 4-Lo. The crawl ratio is like 33 or something, as compared to about 65 on a Jeep Rubicon. So if you are doing steep hills in 4-Lo, you are going to be on the brakes alot.

I remember an article in one of the 4x4 magazines where they tested a half ton from Ford, Dodge, Chevy and Nissan. The Nissan won overall, but had the worst (fastest) downhill creep.

Here's the link.

Four Wheeler Magazine

The down hill test is at the very end of the article.

I can put my titan in 1st gear and it cruises down hills with no slowing down, there is no hill decent on our trucks!

When I'm in 4 wheel low and first gear..there is no need for brakes on my very steep hill. This week I will try the 850 lb. empty trailer in 4 wheel low and first gear going down...bet it doesn;t need the brakes one time!!! It's plenty low enough.

There is a hill descent feature on the Titans 5 spd tranny. There's nothing written about it and I have no idea how it works but anyone letting off the gas going downhill or who has tapped the brakes while going downhill has experienced it. Maybe it's not an actual hill descent but it certainly works like one. And works quite well.

You'll really notice it at speed while going down a long-ish type hill. The ABS system can also "read" the terrain and allow more or less wheel lock-up but....I don't think this has anything to do with what we're talking about.

This does not happen in my truck......ever. 1st gear isnt low enough to keep the truck going slow, it needs the brakes. 4lo is a different story.

Well...you either prefer to be argumentitive, or have the only Titan that doesn't slow itself if you let off the gas going downhill.
Rememeber, We're not saying the truck will stop! But unlike most any other vehicle I've driven, it won't pick up much speed, if any, unless you're talking about an extremely steep hill. This alos lends to the Titan not being a very good coaster as well. Try letting of the gas on even the slightest downhill, it won't coast too well.

Naw, not my truck.Maybe the ones that do are good candidates for front T.S.B brake jobs in the near future?
