Sheet Metal Fit Issues

While washing the truck I noticed that the sheet metal fit is not the best on my Titan. I realize that it is not a hand-built Rolls, but still I would have expected better from Nissan.

I took a caliper and proceeded to measure a couple of areas.

The driver door is .100 (almost 1/8") more forward than the passenger side door, based on the 1/2 doors location. The latter (both sides) seem to be aligned properly, so the baseline is not too bad. Basically the driver side door does not create a weather tight seal along the 1/2 door, at least not as good as the other side.

The drop gate is a good 1/8" to 5/32" bias to the left of the truck.

The driver side quarter panel is roughly 1/32" to 1/16" outward more than the door. The passenger side is well aligned.

I don't think this is being picky. I measured a couple of areas on my 2001 F150, and no where it is as bad as the Titan.

Has anyone checked their Titan for sheet metal issues? Should I even bother having the dealership do something about it at the risk of creating more problems?

I've read other threads where some folks were having issue with their doors being out of alignment. Could that be it? Can your tail gate and door be realigned to correct the gaps?

to each his own, but it sounds like you are being a bit picky. drive the truck and enjoy it. if you want to find problems you will find them on everything. nothing is perfect. i'm amazed at some of the things that people come up with on this site. let's use this site in a positive direction.

have a great day

I agree. This site is becoming more like a complaint forum for the masses.

Hang 'em with a golden rope and they still complain...

These are not complaints, they are facts. 1/8"off in the way the driver door is aligned is quite a bit in my opinion. Ditto with the tailgate.

The Explorer my wife drive got wrecked a while back. The body shop did a better job at aligning aftermarket components than the factory did on my Titan.

Frankly I spent almost $24k for this truck, I'd expect the tolerances to be a bit tighter.

And where else to talk about this but in a forum?

i don't understand, if this is such a concern, did you buy the truck with blinders on! we all have things we are peculiar about and we usually look for these things when buying, if this is such a concern how did you not notice it before purchase. it seems like a lot of people have bought trucks without even inspecting them, because so many complaints are about things that should have been caught before purchase. nissan is like everything else in this world, imperfect.

again, have a good day

Hey, cut the dude some slack guys! We know Nissan's not perfect, but then either are we. I picked up my truck at night and failed to notice some door sag that caused the door to clunk clumsily as it hit the striker plate. $hit happens! EVERYONE finds things wrong after bringing it home, and if Nissan agreed with you, they wouldn't extend a warranty. They DO offer a warranty like everyone else because they know they make mistakes. The same thing happens when you buy a house or make any major expenditure, you get a warranty because the seller knows he is obligated to adhere to a level of quality. If my dash and doors start rattling annoyingly after 8k, does that make me a picky, unreasonable bastage for expecting Nissan to make a more solid truck? No. I expect them to correct their flaws whether I caught it at the dealer or not. There is no way you are going to catch every defect while you are shopping vehicles, and even if you do, they STILL have to fix the flaws, so what's the biggie with bringing it to light?
Sorry, long weekend, too soon back to work.

Complaining about this problem to 4000 strangers, that you don't even know, on a message board isn't going to fix your problem. Complaining to Nissan will.
