1st Service

Hello,
I'm coming up on 3K miles and called the dealer to inquire about scheduling my first service. Given the info that I received, I have a few questions:

1) The service rep said that Nissan's recommended service interval is 3700 miles, not 3000. Is this true?
2) I asked how long the service would take (expecting a half day to full day in the shop). He replied 30 to 45 minutes.
3) Given this, I asked what they did in that timeframe. He responded that they changed the oil and checked the other fluid levels. I asked if they drained and changed the lube in the transfer case. He said that they just checked the levels. Can this be true?

Given the previous posts here, I was under the impression that a lot more comprehensive inspection was done. Your comments are welcome. Depending on what I hear I may be calling the service manager.
Thanks!

Just about all dealers are in competion (somewhat)with Jiffy Lube type places. My local dealer is pretty fast with just an oil changes also. Should be good to go!

this is an oil change and not a service check up right?

i doubt they will check the rear diff. and fill it if need be.

by fluids i beleive he means, washer, coolant, and visual inspect the master cylander level. other than that you have to ask him to check (which also might mean additional charge beyond the usual "oil change" fee.

[sarcasm] You can believe everything you read on the Internet....[/sarcasm]

Seriously though, I just checked against the service manual, which I have installed on my computer here, and the only service listed at the 3750 mile initial service is to change the oil and filter. This is following Schedule I, by the way, the severe service schedule.

There is also a Premium Maintenance schedule listed in the owner's manual for the maintenance obcessed.

I waited until atleast 3750 to do an oil change (I think it actually turned out to be right at 4k), and won't be doing the synthetic switch until 10k. Just whatever you do, since I saw someone mention Jiffy Lube, don't go there. For an oil change I personally would stick with the dealer, since Jiffy Lube either won't do the service or if they do, they will ALWAYS find something (so they say) that supposedly needs to be replaced. I constantly had guys at Jiffy Lube telling me I needed service, no matter how many times I told them I just had it done by the dealer.

Keith, you are absolutely correct. I had to tell the guys at jiffy lube that they had not put the drain plug back after they began filling it. I have also had the cap left off. Do it yourself or take it to the dealer.
