Popping Noise When Turning

Anyone experience a popping noise from the front right when turning at slow speeds? It's like 3-4 popping noises as I turn the truck. It's only at low speeds, and it happens more when there is a variance in grade. For the life of me can't figure out what might be causing it.

front end noise

Ya, i can hear a noise in the front when i am turning and spin my rear wheels in 2wd. I took a friend for a ride to listen and he thought it could be the ABS pumps... or not

Mine pops at the beginning of a right turn. Just enough to feel it in the steering wheel.

That doesn't sound healthy. Get your head under there with the wheel all the way turned and see if you spot something that could bind. With the truck jacked up, you won't find it because the suspension won't be compressed. I'd hate to think something is bent from a pot hole or something like that and is now interfering. See what the dealer says.

Has it always done this since you bought the truck, or did it just start happening?
My Astro van does that turning to the right but it is a piece of junk work truck and I don't care to put any money into it. When the wheels fall off, I'll get another one .. might not be too long from now.

The steering travel should be set so the pinion can't hit the last tooth on the rack... "should be" being the key words... lol. Maybe a tech can check that too.

Was thinking more like tie rods... are they still called that? been a while.
J Wills, do you have 4x or 2x?

Yep, I've got the same thing, kind of a pop/scrunch type of noise, only does it one time, not repeated. Seems to occur when the right-side suspension is unloaded a bit (right-hand turn) and when going over a small bump (same as grade change, I guess).

I thought it might be the Jet Tech helper springs on the rear leafs, but am convinced that it's coming from the front end somewhere.

First one with a fix wins my vote for 'hero of the month'!!

Thanks for all the responses....Pciley, I have a 4X4 CC. Checked the skid plates, and they are secure. Just eye-balling the front end with an untrained eye nothing was obviously bent, broken, or bleeding. I'm gonna give the ball joints a closer look as Tom suggested, but it looks like a trip to the dealer. Another reason to hassle them again about putting one of the '05 diff covers on.

Just to close the loop on this one....Deal says it's a bad rack and pinion causing the popping noise. More specifically the rack is bad. Will be replacing as a warranty fix.
