Thanks Tom. I do have to do some research as I do not understand some of the ratings. I see that I have some that is substantially higher then universal averages. If I caanot find out any info. I guess I will call BlackStone and see if they can be kind enough to explain it to me. BTW I just wante to say I have been reading your posts and hope your porblems with your Titan is resolved soon. How is it going?

It costs $20.00 Just go to www.blackstone-labs.com and request an oil analysis and they will send you an analysis kit. Follow the directions and send back to them for the reading. I included a $20.00 check in the container and that was it. However you need to get proper postage costing approx. $1.52. I think it is well worth it. I wanted to know how my engine was doing with the oil I use. I plan on doing it every 10k miles. Let us know when you get yours done.

Awesome report. FYI, the wear metals are:
Iron (cylinder liners)
Lead (bearing)
Aluminum (block, heads)
Chromium (rings in most vehicles)
Copper (oil coolers, other fittings/washers)
Iron and lead are the biggies. 6 Iron and 3 lead is a great report for an engine with such low mileage. On most cars the numbers don't settle down until after 20K, so you may get even lower in the future.
This oil worked great in your truck. I am running the Chevron 10w30 now in my Titan. With such low wear numbers, and insoluables of only 0.2, you really could run this oil longer. TBN would be another indicator of oil life left, but I guess you didn't pay extra for it. I'd try 4000 miles for the next sample.
What filter did you use?

This is a calcium overbased additive package, with moly and boron added as extra anti-wear additives.
There are also oils with lower calcium but higher zinc, phosporous and magnesium, this sort of add pack being more common with diesel oils. In gas engine oils they are moving away from high ZDP as it isn't good for the cats if burned, and the manufacturers now have to warranty the cats for 120K. The GF-4 standard states no more than 800 ppm of ZDP. This is why you see the calcium overbased formulas now and moly/boron, which did not used to be present in OTC dinos.
*I'd say this was GF-4 Chevron, do you still have the bottles? The Zinc may be left over from a prior change.

Thank you very much for your input here I really appreciate it. I did some research on the report but you really helped to clear things out for me. Yes I did not at this time get the TBN reading perhaps later. As far as my oil filter I use the one from Nissan pn 15208-9E000. As far as changing at 4K I change religiously at 3K. Thanks Again .. Take Care!!

Brons2- Thanks Again You really helped me out here by explaining these additives. I did some research as well and kind of concluded that these ratings above the universal averages were to do with cleaning additives so I was relieved. Man you seem to know a lot about oils. I used to do Amsoil in my Jeep previous to my Titan but I think I am going to continue to use the Chevron on my Titan for a while. What is your opinion on Synthetics? I do have extra quarts I checked it and it is the Chevron Supreme GF-3. Thanks again reallly appreciate your input!!!
If you are willing to do extended drains, syn oils are a good bet. For example if you want to use the non-severe service interval of 7500 miles under service that could be classified as severe, a syn oil would be a good choice. Since you say that you are unwilling to go past 3K, then I'd stick with a high quality dino like the Chevron Supreme. (Although realistically even this oil could have gone farther) Obviously it gave you GREAT results in this engine, so why pay more?
On a side note, on my old truck I actually got better analysis results with Chevron Supreme than with Mobil 1. Not to say the Mobil 1 results were bad, but my Chevron results were outstanding. In a 5000 mile interval on the Chevron I had 4 ppm iron, 0 ppm lead. On the Mobil 1 I had 10 ppm iron, 4 ppm lead.
Dino oils are so much better nowadays than they used to be even 15 years ago, with the new standards and basestocks. Hydrocracking of conventional basestocks is a huge advance over the old solvent dewaxing processing.
(flame suit on for you syn lovers)
[edit] interesting that this was GF-3 oil, I guess Chevron won't have to do much to qualify this oil for GF-4.
*also, I credit much of what I have learned about motor oils to the geniuses over at bobistheoilguy.com
