I had my tire pressure alarm turn on the other day. It sounded like an alarm clock. It was a cold mornign and I had just left the house. The buzzer buzzed for about (what seemed to be) 20 seconds. I went home and checked the pressure and they were all at 30. I ignored it and went on. I took it to the dealer later that week and sure enough, they are set to turn on when the pressure falls below 30-ish. They put air in and all was fine. I'm sure that they laughed at me as I left..

i would imagine not; probably passive rf, and use energy from the em field generated by whatever is reading the sensor. like the anti-theft tags in stores.
