Just curious, the car seem more than capable, but I was wondering how the goodyear all seasons on the 18x8 wheels would respond. I'm very much wanting to go on some beginner trails but would like to have an idea of the trucks capabilities as well.
I think a better set of tires would do wonders. I have been on very limited "off road" conditions and I have found the truck to get stuck on a wet leaf in 2wd and in 4wd it is more than capable but you can tell there is a lot of unneccesary wheelspin from crappy tires.
Not a problem for me. Light to moderate 4x4ing so far. Driven more on sand than anything else, but decent elsewhere. Did ok during the hurricanes when lots of roads were impassable and you had to go around flooded streets by going through muddy fields, backwoods ect.... Goes everywhere my 4x4 Frontys did except really narrow trails. Hope to have better off road pics when camera gets fixed.

Oh yeah I have been off-roading my truck since I got it (Vermont/Maine), dont worry about it.
Go for it, it is a very capable truck, even though you dont have a skid plate and stiffer shocks, ts not like its a totaly different truck or anything.
FLfinfan has hit the nail on the head, the goodyears perform decent in the soft FL sand. I have to perform inspections at some large subdivision construction sites before all the roads are put in, just fine sands, all rooted up by heavy equipment. Truck is awesome in the sand. I even had to pull out the Developer who got stuck in his Lincoln Navigator.
Got to drive it in some light gravel and some slightly dry, packed mud and really saturated mud including a couple large but shallow mud pool/puddle. Total pansy stuff by OR standards, but it was big fun for this 4x4 newbie. Steering feel in the mud was close to zilch, but if I went easy enough on the throttle everything was easy to control in 4-high. Can't wait to hit a real trail.
VW: I have the same truck as you and I have a skid plate. I just don't have as many as the OR package has.I am fairly sure that is what you meant to say, wasn't it?

I have a SE 4x4 without OR and I would call it more of a skid pie-tin...
My pos 92 Mitsubishi/Dodge RAM D50 4x4 had skid plate's so heavy that if you dropped it on your foot it would surley break it. Maybe that is why the thing was guttless, because of the heavy skid plates!

Yeah, I would call it more of a splash guard for the motor, not a skid plate. I'm actually surprised (and glad) that it's not plastic.

Yeah, its a small black splash guard under the motor. Actually,I like to call it more of a "annoy plate" when you have to change your oil.
If a rock or stump hits it this, see ya later pie plate! I was about to pick a real one up on eBay for $100-150 but I'm still not sure. I want a bull bar and if you install a bull bar you cant have the skid plate. I can never make up my mind.

The new Westin Bull bars have built in skid plates. Thought you might wanna know.

the painted plastic outer bumpers will scratch and dent super easy, so don't try brush crushing or steep angles of approach - a POS design just crying for aftermarket

I take my Non-OR off road all the time. I go paintballing in the deepest of Maryland swamps you can imagine. My 2000 Tacoma handled it pretty well, but that was just more of a screw around truck. The Toyota commercials weren't lying, I beat that thing and it kept on running. The Titan handles the mud a lot easier than the Tacoma (expected) but I had to take a chainsaw with me the first time to cut out the path. I dented the driver's side plastic bumper cover pretty bad, but I just popped it off and pushed the dent out. No biggie. I did manage to bend my mirror back on a tree though trying to cut a tight turn, I put it into reverse and forgot to compensate for the elephant ear mirrors. The mirror itself popped off, but it snapped right back on, and the housing bent back fine too. I'm not a big worry guy when it comes to dents and scratches. It's a truck, it'll be abused like my last one. I don't care what anyone says, that Tacoma was more fun offroad than the Titan anyday. And it was only a V6 PreRunner. Half the fun is not knowing whether you're going to make it there and back, and I don't have to worry about it with my Titan as long as I bring a chainsaw to fit it's wide butt in there.

I been off road aplenty out here in Cali especially with all the rain lately. I have the same wheels and tires as you on my XE, 4x4, CC non-off road and I do fine on mud, sand and rocks, besides the sooner I destroy these pizza cutters the sooner I can get some bigger MT's.
