my installer tapped the harness near the battery in the engine bay.

directed lists the following,
item - Tachometer
wire color - NOT white/blue or black
polarity - ac
wire location - any ignition coil

my alarm/remote start is nonDEI (Prestige) and is looking for a negative (-) coil input. Is this the same for DEI? Is it also looking for - input?

I see the black, white/blue, yellow/red lines to the coils. black is obviously ground... so which one do I use?!

Thanks for the help

i have a clifford intellistart and according to the installation manual..."connect this wire to the vehicle coil's negative side or the noncommon fuel injector wire." i think it's the same system as yours, so following directed's notes, it's not the black wire nor the white/blue wire.

if you need, go to www.directed.com and look up the intellistart manual.

The tach wire is at any coil pack under the hood...There are 3 wires, one is white w/blue stripe and another is black. They are common on every coil pack. The 3rd wire is the odd colored one. That is the wire you want to tap into. I've been doing these things for about 10 years

TACH REFERENCE.....NOT WHT w/BLU or BLACK..... AT ANY IGNITION COIL

thanks for the help... i will try tomorrow.

the instructions also lists an option for multi coil systems, but requires an adapter. I will try it off a single coil first and hope it works!

no luck...

tach signal is apprx. .16 vac, and rises with rpms.

is this the normal voltage for tach signal? trying to avoid having to use a multi coil pack adaptor which I can't even find!

suggestions?

clifford manual says a dmm will read 1v-6v AC and fluctuate with rpm. multi coil ignition systems regsiter lower amounts of AC voltage.

Tach Signal:

(AC)
This vehicle has independent coils, there are three wires per coil, White/Blue, Black and the third is the tach signal wire. Or you can use the pposite of White on the injectors

k thanks for the help fellas... everything works now, using a single coil for the reference.

turns out the on/off disable switch for the remote start had a bad connection. One of the wires wasn't soldered on the back of the switch too well!
