What activates "ICE" ?

On the way to work this morning, I noticed when the temp in mirror showed 36 degrees, "ICE" appeared. A little bit later, the temp showed 35-34 degrees and "ICE" stopped appearing and never showed up again. Anyone know what actually activates the "ICE" display?

Ice can appear on bridges and overpasses at 38 degrees. This is the point at which it begins to flash "ICE". It flashes for about 1 minute regardless of whether or not the temperature gauge continues to drop, but will stop after about a minute regardless of what the gauge reads. The only thing that will stop it before 1 minute is if the gauge begins reading 39 degrees.

We bottomed out at 15 on a real thermometer last night and I saw ICE on mine this morning. Of course the Titan's temp sensor showed 20 and has got to be the most inaccurate of any vehicle I've ever owned.

mine was 28 this morning and I only saw 'ICE' once. It was clear outside and there was some frost on the cars (mine is under a car port). Actually I think the sensor is under the bumper, where it won't obtain false readings say from air coming through the grill, as someone mentioned previously as to where it was located. I installed the temperature mirror on my Tundra 6 months before I traded it for the Titan and I'm guessing they are pretty standard as to mounting locations for the sensor...it mounted behind the front bumper. False readings are more likely to happen while sitting in traffic and the sensor picking up the heat coming up from the pavement.

What activates ICE?

A violation of Immigration and Customs laws.
