Hows the cold treating your Titan?

Just curious. It's getting to negatives (F) here in MN, and for Christmas we are going to visit my brother in law's family. So, the Titan will be parked outside overnight in sub zero temps.

Using Rotella T 5w40 synth oil. Anyone had any problems starting in frigid weather, or is she a champ? (like my tundra was..)

Thanks!

Never had any trouble last year when the Titan was in -30 below wind chill factor.

Mine is parked outside all the time because I don't have a garage. It fires up with no problems, but I do have a block heater installed.

Just don't point yer nose into the wind overnight when temps are in the single digits!! I learned that the hard way..Froze my whole engine up, but that was on a 96 GMC Jimmy. As for the Titan, she's doin great in the cold. Supposed to get down to 10F tonight! brrrrrrrrrr.

If I lived in Minny, I'd be using a 0w-30 like German Castrol or Mobil 1. I guess so long as it starts and builds good oil pressure...

The Rotella T is a fairly thick 40wt and it's also a Group III oil, so not a true synthetic.

If you lived in Florida what oil would you run? We are getting down to the 20's tonight with wind chill but thats rare. Would you run 5w-30 or 10w-30?

Point of Clarity: Wind Chill

Folks,
I just wanted add that wind chill is not pertainent to non-living machines. Only to flesh and blood. So 20 degrees to a Titan is 20 degrees (regardless of the wind).
We get the cold weather on Tuesday (6 degrees). Last January, we had a stretch of -7 degree nights. I was worried about how well I winterized the boats & stuff. We got through it, but I sure was thinking that "this is nuts" and Key West sure was enticing!

You are right about wind chill but wind does make a difference in some situations. If you have been driving your Titan in cold weather and then park it in a garage the oil and coolant temps will stay warmer for a greater length of time than it would in the blowing wind outside. The wind blowing over the engine block and oil pan will dissipate the heat a lot more quickly.

16.2°F now and dropping..just got back from South Carolina.in the snow..made to the mountain top no problem. About 1/2-1" of snow on the roads and blowing 20-50 mph......just got the Super-Z-cables yesterday for the back tires for when the tires won't grab any longer. Will try to crank the engine in the morning.....using 5-20W motorcraft syn-blend. By the way the heater works great!!

Cold Weather

I really wouldn't worry too much about cold weather starting w/Nissans. I still have my '95 KC with the original battery (more like a motorcycle batery). It never let me down, although now it slowly cranks. Probably feeling the neglect, now that we are driving the Titan. Before the '95, I had a '90 that I used to plow my driveway with. The plow was electrically operated and I never had a problem with the original alternator or the battery. My wife has had Pathfinders and now an Infinity QX4. Never a starting issue, even in the coldest of weather.
