Dont have a titan yet, hopefully soon though. Everytime I bring up the Titan while talking about selling the car my sister goes "I like chevy a lot better, Kevin" she goes on to say how the Titan has thin skin and how that it would be dangerous during a crash . I told her that it a trucks skin almost doesn't matter during a crash. I go on talking about how the Titan is superior in price/power and she still talks about the thin skin and how ugly the grill is. Is there anything wrong with the chevy trucks that will really shut her up? Any info appreciated.
Not that I have anything wrong with chevy, hell my parents have a tahoe but I know the Titan is an all around better truck.
my chevy was pretty cool except that it was 2wd. It does come only with chrome bumpers front and rear (an outdated look IMO) and they sit really low to the ground. I also didn't care for the crappy wheels and tires that they offer on their fullsize pickups.
oh yeah, and a base model 4x4 extended cab w/ vinyl floor and manual cranking windows and V8 is about 29,500. my titan crew cab 4x4 w/ offroad package, 33" tires, keyless, 6 disc changer, and very nice interior for 33,000 (MSRP) and I got it for about 28,500 and 3% financing.

I kinda have the same problem, my dad and brother have 2003 sierras. my brother always gives me a hard time, "they still had'nt fixed your truck yet? Should of got a GMC" I've taken my titan to the dealer 4 times because of a water leak. I drive their GMC's quite often and would have to say they are good trucks IMO but my brother can kiss my $$$ because my titan is great!
Every make has their ups and downs.
After being used to my titan their GMC's feel really slow.
(not tryin to bash, i got a 95' chevy also)
Only problems I've had with my '04 half-ton Silv are warranty repairs on steering column clunk and horn.. nothing serious for you to use in one year and 15k miles :-P. Drivetrain seems about as bulletproof as can be.
I did not even consider a Chevy due to past poor experiences with GM products.

Front end was redone for 02 or 03.

I traded in my '02 Silverado Ext. Cab LT for my Titan. I liked the Chevy (or else I wouldn't have bought it), but it developed the piston slap problem. I also really liked the Auto Trac 4 wheel drive function.
But, the piston slap, cheap and dated interior (got on my nerves as time went by), and low power and torque (compared to the Titan) lead me to tade it in.
Tell that everything is going to be, "OK." That this will only hurt for a second.

Or...
Try this: Chevy has posted 80 TSB's as of two weeks ago for repairs on the 2004 Silverado (Yes, I counted them.) Nissan only has 15 posted TSB's as of last week (Yes, I counted these too.)
Technical Service Bulletins equal work and repairs necessary for common problems among specific makes of vehicles. Short of doing recalls that is.
Or...
Tell her if SHE likes Chevy so much that SHE should go out and buy one, but make her wait until she rides in your Titan a bunch and let her even drive it a couple of times. She'll be hooked in no time and then she'll be wanting a Titan, too!!
Chevy is good if you plan to dump it at 70k...Here's what I fixed on my 1997 Silverado with 5.0 after 70k gentle hwy miles..........
Replaced intake manifold gaskets
Steering position sensor
Rear pinion oil seal
U-joints
Carrier bearing
Disk brake rotors twice
$300 turn signal switch
fuel pump
Mass airflow sensor
A/c compressor seal
A/c blower switch
Water pump
Alternator
Shocks
Other than that it runs good and I'm handy, so I bought a book and did most of the repair work myself. This truck now has 130k.
My wife's 1998 Froniter had three TSB repairs before 30k. I sold it at 140k. In between that time all I did was replace the brake pads and shocks... No other issues at all..
I kept the Chevy because I need the larger truck..I sold the Frontier for the Titan.
doesn't GM have electrical issues alot? I know tailights on alot of GM cars and trucks are burning out alot. We had an old 94 blazer work vehicle and that thing was garbage, the thing had a bad tranny, motor was the 4.3 wa like a slug, boat anchor motor. The windows, power stopped working, the tailight housing melted! nothing but rust, bumpers.
Chris 04 titan.
I always had had nissans, 86 sentra, 92 sentra SE-R, 94 maxima, 94 hardbody, 00 Frontier. Never had much issues on any, my 92 blew a coil once, We had the maxima Original exhaust for 10 years, never went out. Nissans are good quality. I know some have had issues, but the platform is new, work the bugs in 2 years. Fortunately, my uncle is a nissan mechanic for 25 years, so he knows the history of any issues. he tells me all kinds of things.
