Unhappy Just got it home...A little nervous

Just got my new Titan...4x4 LE CREW Silver. 2004 (sweet end of year deal)
I also just happened across this site and now I and now I'm a little concerned. It seems that there are a lot of quality issues out there.
Mine was built in August 04. Have they made improvements by August production or am I in trouble? I have owned Toyota 4runners for the last 10 years and I dont know what a service department looks like.

IM CONCERNED...Any reassurance would be appreciated. :

LT - August build is GOOD!

Just check the truck over for some of the things posted here but I think you will find little to none of everything posted.

The only issue with have with our '05 that is a carry over from the '04's is brake judder...but we are getting a lot of rumors that something is coming soon as a final fix...

Welcome to the site!

Chris

LT, got my Titan KingCab LE 4x4 with an April 04 build date in July and have had no problems. Since your truck is several months behind mine, you should be fine as well. Enjoy it and don't pay too much attention to the gripes on here, that's what they do on forums it seems like. Nature of the beast, but also a good place to find info.

I too have a Titan built in August. I have had no real issue thus far. I have almost 7K miles on it. I did have the ticking noise from the front passager floor board are while in motion, but fixed that in ten mins and a 4 dollar cable.

Bought my Titan in Feb. it has almost 20K mikes and it hasn't been in the shop once. "knock on wood".
So far it is the best truck I have ever owned.
You will hear about a lot of problems on here, because this site is where everyone with a problem comes to. Most problems are minor, squeaks, rattles, etc. Some are not, but that dosen't mean that all are problem plagued.
Congrats on your new truck, hope yours is as trouble free as mine.

Got mine in Septmember has an 8/4/04 build date. 5000+ miles and no problems. You know how the saying goes, when something bad happens everybody talks and tells one another, when something good happens nobody says a thing. The amount of people here is only a fraction of all of the Titans sold.

August is a very good date. As mentioned earlier you should only have to deal with the brake judder issue. Also, as mentioned earlier, a suppossed fix is on the way.

Mine is an April build date and besides the RF stereo problem it has been the best truck I ever owned. It is beautiful, fast, big, and chicks dig it. You made a great decision.

I went over 13,500 miles last night and I've had the truck in the shop once to have the applicable Service Bulletins and the seat belt recall done.
Thats it,Gas,change the oil,air the tires and down the road we go.

Here is the link to the Service Bulletins and Recalls.

Happy Trails!

One bit of advice, this is the INTERNET. Don't believe everything you read!

It's a known practice that manufacturers have paid representives to frequent forums as active members. The paid members are to sway customers away from their competitors. The Titan is a brand new vehicle and is the FIRST FULL SIZE TRUCK from a company other than the BIG 3. It has and will continue to take market share away from the big 3, which have always dominated the market place. Of course they'll put up a fight against the Titan and the forums and newsgroups are the best place for them. They can be deceitful and not be held liable because it's technically not the corporation saying dishonest things about their competitor. These forums are a basis for information, whether it be true or false, and is the best place to turn customers away from the Titan, and onto the BIG 3.

As everyone has always pointed out, don't believe everything you read on the internet. I personally feel believe about 10% and throw the rest away.

I've been a member of various different forums through out the years and have read the same untruths about other products I've owned that were trouble free.

In the US we have corporate lobbying to congress, in the forums we have corporate lobbying through paid manufacturer forum members. Whether manufacturers are buying votes or buying fabricated stories, it's us, the people who lose.

I have a '04 XE CC 4X4 Titan made in February without any major problems. I've had a whole 3 minor problems to date.

1) The 6 CD changer stereos were bad, it's a known TSB. I had mine replaced during an oil change.

2) I had distorted weatherstripping on the rear sliding window. I had it re-sealed during an oil change.

3) I have a window problem on both the front window where the auto close feature gets confused when it's enabled while all the way down. It tries to open then shuts again. It's a known bug and there's a TSB. I will have it done during the next oil change. This is very rare as it only happens about 1% of the time, while 99% of the time is fine.

These VERY minor problems are nothing compared to the other problems I've had on all my other brand new vehicles. While my Xterra was previously my most trouble free vehicle (now held by my Titan), it had some minor issues that needed to be corrected. I had a water leak on the hatch. 3M tape had to be applied under the roof wind deflector as it was rubbing paint off(this was a known TSB and was corrected on further Xterras), the rear seat latches were not tight and constantly produced a metal clanging sound when turning or hitting bumps (this was the hardest to fix as we finally had to use thick cloth tape around post, to take up slack on both rear seats). End stops on the front end had to be readjusted a few times and other minor troubles. This was nothing compared to my other vehicles and my buddies Toyota Camrys he had (2). He now has a 2005 Altima, as he found it much more desirable than his earlier 2003 Camrys.

So don't let this site convince you that your truck is garbage. Just consider where some of these stories most likely come from and judge by your own experiences and others you talk with that are not on the "internet".

Have a good one and enjoy your truck!

Hi,
I don't work for any truck company (I'm a teacher). I'll tell you this. The 04 Titans had their share of new model year problems. Some of us have had lots of "shop time". Having said that, go look on a Ford, Dodge or Chevy forum. I did, after someone on this forum suggested I was being too negative about Titans overall. Whoooo.

Enjoy your Titan. Your late build 04 will probably be great.

LT Titan...congratulations on your new Titan......I must say half the time I praise my 5-04 Titan and half the time I curse it......glad you got in a little later. However as Hemi-Smoker said..he has a transmission problem and his is an 9-04 build I believe..that is a major headache if you have it...so check it out.....SEARCH.......enjoy and don't let anything that bugs you be unknown...or untold.....if you don't speak up no-one will for you here. The Titan is an awsome machine and takes a little time to know its peculiarities. Good luck!!

Both trucks have been great. We've had our radios replaced (TSB) and the rear seat belt recall done. My son's may have the window switch problem.
Titan's an extraordinary truck. You chose wisely.
To read some really scary stuff, go to F150online.com or some of the Dodge and Chevy truck forums.
It's human nature to focus on your problems - we do a fine job of it here, for sure.
Unfortunately some of the members have had really bad experiences with Titan ownership. "You pays your money and you takes your chances" really rings true with a first-year vehicle built in a new plant by folks that never did that kind of work before. Many owners of competing trucks have really rotten experiences too - except the design isn't really new, the factories are old (except Dodge in Mexico), and the workers highly seasoned. Go figure.
Best of luck with your new Titan!
