Are '05 Captain's Seats BIGGER than '04 ??

There's a reason that I ask ....

I ordered a set of the Nissan Seat covers from Jamie ....

Rear seat covers fit fine ....

But the front are really ... REALLY.... TIGHT !!

So much so ... that they pucker on the sides and prolly lack 3-4 inches meeting at the bottom ....

There is some evidence that these front covers have been previously returned ... so what Jamie and I are trying to determine is ...

A. Are these just bad seat covers that need to be replaced ...

B. Are the seats in an '05 substantially bigger than in an '04 in which case they are never gonna fit because Jamie tells me that the current accessory catalog for the '05 lists the seat covers as being available for the rear seats ONLY .... (I guess Nissan thinks that there is a large number of folks who encounter most of their "wear & tear" in the back seats .... Sorry Nissan ... not since I was a teenager ...)

Since the problem is most visible on the seat backs and headrests ... I took some measurments ....

Drivers Seat Back ....

24.5" tall - measured upward from seat cushion
20.5" wide - measured just above lumbar support handle
8" thick - just above lumbar support handle
6" thick - near the top

Head rest ...

8" tall
9" wide
6" thick near the bottom
4" thick near the top

If anyone would be willing to compare these measurements against their '04 ... I'd be sincerely appreciative !!

Thanks !

Nope, only the headrests were redesigned (added active headrests). Seats are unchanged for 05.

Mine were also very tight...you really have to work it and adjust them. on the passengers side...the 2 little peices of velcro on the back were just to tight....I took some 1 1/2 velcro and attached the two pieces...those stupid tabs that have to slide under the seat kept popping out..so I went to Lowes and got A GROMMIT kit and small bungy cords for the front and sides...Fits nice and tight and no wrinkles.....I would like to see pics of where you are having problems.....I
Like a tight fit, but sounds like yours are to tight. I at first tried to slide arm rest piece over armrest and almost stretched it...If you know what I mean....the open space where the armrest sits into.....the seat cover does not slide over arm rest....hard to explain, but I tried that!!! and it does not work....to tight...good luck post pics

Well ....

I worked with them over the course of three days .... in a heated garage .... truck not being driven ... each night trying to tension them a little more hoping that they would relax and maybe stretch a bit ...

I would work them down ... carefully sliding my hand up inside the cover to make sure that the rubbery surface of the inner cover was being released from the seat ....

The drivers side seat back cushion "puckered" badly on the door side ... and would never come closer than 3-4 inches of meeting at the bottom ... and where it hooked over the lumbar lever ... it was obviously overstressed ....

On the passengers side seat back cushion .... it puckered badly in the back ... and the little loop that hooks the side of the seat on the door side was obviously overstressed ....

It sort of reminds you of trying to wear a shirt that you're waaaay too fat for and seeing it pucker around the buttons ....

If there were no changes in the dimensions of the seat for '05 ... then it is obviously just a bad set .... prolly made on a Monday morning after a really wild weekend ....

Jamie was willing to ship me another set out today ... but I just asked him to hold off until we could find out whether or not it was gonna be a futile effort ....

It would remove all doubt if there is someone that has actually put these on an '05 ....

Thanks ....

I measured mine and they are the same as yours. Don't get mad, but I am going to ask a few dumb questions...the reason why...becuase I did both at first. The seats are marked for passenger and driver side. And they do not slide over arm rest. If your try like I did they will be tight as heck..I almost ripped them. Put them on with armrests down. I know the headrest are different so I can't comment on the fit. And if you think they were used which is possible..I would return them. I know of a few people on the board that did not like them and sent back......and also if you can't fit the ones on the headrest we can trade...mine fit great. good luck

Not at all ....

The wisdom associated with knowing the "right thng to do" .... often comes from doing just about everything wrong at some point ....

Yes ... I did check the "sewn-in" labels .... although the access hole for the lumbar support handle makes it somewhat of an "only one possibility" proposition for me ....

Yes ... I am doing this with the armrest down ... although I have lifted them at times in an attempt to "pinch" the cover against the seat and hold downward tension overnight ....

It does not bother me at all that they may have been previously sold and returned ... if it was because someone just changed their mind, etc ....

My concern is that they may have been returned because they were too small ... and therefore .... they still are ....

At any rate ... Jamie is tops ... and I have no doubts in him ...

I deeply appreciate all of your help and ideas ....

I got the Nissan OEM covers and they fit very nice. My is 04 CC. You can see them at http://www.clubtitan.org/postt817.html

I had problem with the first front passenger. The cover was not fit right and missed velcros. Dealer exchanged for different one and it fits like a glove.

Actually the 05 seat backs are taller than the 04's. The headrest is differnt too. I saw a picture of it on another thread. You should ask the dealer if Nissan has new cover's for the 05 fronts.

Now that's really odd ....

I posted the dimensions of my '05 and raskm checked them against his '04 and said that they were the same ....

As I posted above ... Jamie says that the accessory catalog for the '05 shows seat covers available for the rear seat ONLY in the '05 ....

Boy ... I wish I knew what was going on here ....

I read an artical a few months back that was posted on nissannews.com and they said Nissan added some additional foam to the 05' seats to add more stability. They also noted the capton seats were a little taller to aid in more support for a wider range of people.

Think I measured at wrong place for the height...I got 24 inch from the back of the seat bottom to top....So I bet they are right.
