Titan Praise

Although I have only posted a few times, I've read the Titan Talk forums religously for the past few months since buying my SE KC in June. Thus far, this site has provided invaluable information. I've learned of potential problems and fixes. However, there seems to be a slant towards the negative. I'm sure my perspective would change if my diff. went out tomorrow, or my windows wouldn't operate correctly, etc. To be blunt, this is why I didn't go with the big three again after Japan came out with a full size truck. I don't expect problems with a Nissan, Honda, Toyata, etc. I may be one of the lucky ones, but I haven't been dissappointed thus far. I've just turned 9K miles. Tires look like new. Not a rattle or squeak. Base radio so no problems. Towed a boat over 3K and no issues. No brake problems, etc. In summary, not a single problem in 7 months and 9K miles (I do have one "chirp" at 70+ mpg and below freezing I've not identified yet).

What really prompted me to post this is tomights weather. In SE MO, we are currently in the teens with several inches of snow. My first observation is that the cab is incredibly void of noise. Because of the snow on the pavement, there wouldn't be a single noise in the cab if not for the radio. My second observation is how incredible the VDC is. I realize it can be a hindrance. My brother in law pulled out in front of someone a few weeks ago. The tires chirped and then the VDC cut power to gain traction, all the while a car was bearing down on us. However in the snow, it is awsome. Traction is great. The VDC also invokes the braking to compensate for understeer or oversteer. I turned it off and was immediately reminded of what it was like to drive my old Chevy 2WD with limited slip, *** end everywhere.

Overall, I think Nissan has a hit with the Titan. I hope they iron out the production problems so that 100% of the owners have the positive experience I've had.

Well put. Ive had mine for a couple of weeks. I bought it as a demo w/ 2000miles on it, and I am seeing some of the minor problems (window, passenger seat squeek, and a dash rattle), but I'm not gonna let that bum me out. They can be fixed and my dealer has been more than accomodating.

The best thing about driving a Titan is that its different. Its not a Ford, Chevy, or Dodge. I like being different.

70+ Mpg?

[quote=MikeL] snip> In summary, not a single problem in 7 months and 9K miles (I do have one "chirp" at 70+ mpg and below freezing I've not identified yet).
<snip

I wouldn't complain about a chirp if I was getting 70+ MPG

Okay...okay, I know it's a typo...but it would be nice

I feel similarly. I've only had mine for 3-1/2 months and 3000 miles, but so far, other then when it stranded me at 3 days old, it has been flawless. This forum has been very helpful, and it has helped me avert future troubles (synthetic in diff), but of all of the forums I visit, this one is the most troubling - even worse than Volkswagen!

I understand that people are having many issues, but I've never seen a forum with the terms "Lemon Law" or "Buy Back" ALWAYS on the first page of the discussion. This is not the fault of the owners, but is the fault of Nissan. In fact, the Titan/Armada forum on Fresh Alloy has identical topics.

From the troubles that I see, most of them I feel are not that major, except for possibly the brake judder issues. But there sure are a lot of window problems, radio fade, A/C hiss, and the biggie seems to be squeaks and rattles. This truly is a shame, because the posts of upset owners seem to indicate that they still love the truck, and really do not want another make, but would really like the issues to go away.

I am currently hoping for the best, but I do find myself scrutinizing the truck greater than normal due what I've been reading here. On the flip side, I do feel that we have a pretty good power train, so hopefully it will remain a strong point, because if that becomes an issue, resale will really plummet.

Forums normally appear negative because many are on them to trouble shoot problems not to praise.

I have to say that at first I felt the same way as you; why are there so many negative posts? I can tell you that the love affair quickly ends for those that have many issues and cannot rely on the dealerships or Nissan to correct them. I think it’s pathetic that Nissan and the dealerships bury their head in the sand when it comes to correcting problems. Again, I’m not being negative; I’m just fed up with Nissan’s attitude after I laid out $33K for a truck that is more headache than it’s worth. When you start having problems like some of us you’ll see why there are so many posts like this. For me personally, my truck develops a different problem every week. I can tell you how to stop all of the “Lemon Law” and “Buy Back” posts for good….Nissan needs too fix the trucks and build a quality product. There customer service is the worst I’ve ever seen. I owned a Tundra before this truck and can tell you that there were problems with it too, but far fewer. And for the problems there were, Toyota quickly addressed them and designed the improvements to be better, not just continually replacing the bad parts with the same poor design. There is not enough emphasis placed on refinement and they are going to lose the battle for the full size truck market if they don’t react to what’s been going on for over a year now. As far as I’m concerned, they’ve already lost my support, I won’t buy Nissan again.

Okay, there's another post on here where someone pointed out that the F-150 has something like 75 TSBs while the Titan has has less than 10 TSBs. Like Stomper4X4 said, "people only come on here to trouble shoot."

9 out of 10 people will voice complaints while 1 out of ten voice praise.

I read these posts with mixed emotions these days. My Titan has been like yours - many problems. I've been ready to dump the truck several times for a Toyota (my old reliable brand). The hard part is this: Driving the thing is still like a drug. The VDC is great, the power is great. It's just all great. No Tundra drives like a Titan.

My wife would like to get rid of the truck. She likes driving it, but is afraid of it. She doesn't want to be broken down in the middle of nowhere. She liked the Tundra a LOT more, because she could trust it.

I'd probably still be screaming about never buying Nissan again, etc. etc. if it weren't for my dealer - Morrie's Nissan in Brooklyn Park, MN. They have been really responsive - doing their best to fix every problem without any guff. They've been giving me loaner cars, because I've had so many problems. Nissan isn't paying for the loaners, THEY are. They've taken responsibility for a problem that isn't theirs.

Anyway, that's how I feel at the moment. Time will tell how I feel over the long term.

Half, I have never known a Nissan to leave anyone stranded. Nissan is just as good as Toyota in that department. It's just this truck is put together by americans, so its a bit less reliable.

I have had my CC 4x4 for a year next month. During that time I have had a few problems including having the entire rear axle replaced when parts for the leaking axle seal were taking longer to get than the whole axle. That was a 5 week ordeal but unlike others I never gave a thought to giving up on the truck. While mine was out of commission Nissan picked up the cost of a 2004 F-150 rental. The Titan is so much more powerful and better appointed than that truck that it only increased my desire to get back into my titan. As I bought mine within two months of introduction I expected a few issues. The key for me was to find a good dealer as close as possible and to work out these issues as they come. Too many of us are expecting perfection or near. Spending $30+k on these is par for the course. Decent Cars and trucks cost a lot. I am sure a lot of people who spend $50k, $60K or $70k plus would look at our trucks as cheap and expect us to have a few issues. Its a matter of perspective. I am sure the 2005s will have fewer issues and the 2006's will be even better. By that time I will have three years on mine and I am certain it will still be going strong.

Best to all and Merry Christmas!

12/23/04 243.3 14.859 $30.00 16.374

Totals: 5725.3 360.757 $781.55 15.870

The above is everything to date since purchasing her 11/08/04. Driving is apprx 83 miles each way commuting (normally 3 days per week) for the most part with a couple of short trips to Ventura, CA on a few weekends. Estimate 70% freeway and the rest stop and go in traffic on the freeways.

In general, she has been very consistent! Truck does have a Truxedo cover.

Our ONLY and One and ONLY complaint is the brake judder which started at 5,100 miles. Nissan fixes this and we are golden in our eyes.

Mine was built on 1/27/04, now has 18000 miles, I haul construction stuff with it almost every day, and its been back to the dealer just once, for the recall and brakes. There are no rattles, leaks, drips, or vibrations. I cant imagine having to drive brands X, Y, or Z.
