Rear-view Mirror Themometer Off by 6-7 degrees?

I have a SE with the Rear-view mirror thermometer. The problem I have is that the temperature reading is usually about 6-7 degrees above what the actual temperature is. Is there anyway to calibrate the thing?

Sensor

Here is what the Owner's Manual (online edition) says about it.
OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE DISPLAY
Push the button when the ignition key is in
the ACC or ON position. The outside temperature
will be displayed .

To change from °F to °C, push and hold
the button for about 3 seconds until
the display begins to flash. Press the button
again to toggle between °F and °C. Once
you have selected °F or °C, the display will
continue to flash for about 5 seconds, then
the temperature will display.

When the outside temperature is between
140°F (60°C) and 194°F (90°C), the display
will read 140°F (60°C). When the temperature
is above 194°F (90°C), the display will
read “SC”.
When the outside temperature is between
than -40°F (-40°C) and -60°F (-51°C), the
display will read -40°F (-40°C). When the
temperature is below -60°F (-51°C), the display
will read “OC”.
The outside temperature sensor is located in
front of the radiator. The sensor may be
affected by road or engine heat, wind direction
and other driving conditions. The display
may differ from the actual outside temperature
or the temperature.

I know that this doesn't mention calibration, but I hope that it is helpful anyway.

Mine seems to be pretty darn accurate. I know when I watch the morning weather forcast my themometer is within a degree or two of what the news said the current temp is. Also when I drive by a US bank every morning my themometer has always been within a degree of what it says. I haven't read anywhere that we can calibrate these things, but you would think you could.

Mine is usually within 2-3ºF in either direction. You definitely need to be moving to get a more accurate reading.

Mine seems to be accurate with what they say on the radio most times sometimes off by 1-2 either direction. I really don't bother with it because where they are broadcasting from will have a different temp from where I am.

I believe the sensor is just inside of the grill (engine side). I wouldn't think that it would have to be clean but I do know that to get the most accurate reading you need to be moving otherwise you are picking up engine heat which can cause it to register high.

HOpefully they placed the sensor out of the direct path of any air passing through the grill which might induce a wind chill type offset to the reading at speed. Alternately it should be shielded from any conducted heat generated by the engine. That said and being experienced in these matters, I am generally satisfied with the reading. I have noticed on cold nights the initial reading will drop after I start moving forward. I suspect wind chill is at work here.

Being off by a couple of degrees isn't a big deal, is it?

The display temp. is where the probe is.....you would have to put another digital probe next to it to compare and see how accurate it is...it is relative to the probe location. What would be cool is if it the Titan had a two-way control button for outdoor and INCABIN temp.!
