Please give the brand you have and if you installed it, how hard, working good ...etc ...blah blah

Viper 791 autostart/alarm. Extremely happy thus far- Great range (suposedly a 1/4 mile), will never go back to not having 2 way communication after having it. Imagine not being able to remember if you locked your doors when you went to the mall, and looking down at your keyfob to see the locked icon on the remote to remind you that there is nothing to worry about. Not sure if your truck started while you were were dabbling in the victorias secret? Just look down and check, if it starts it will beep and show you the start icon... no more guessing. Kind of expensive, the best out there are clifford, which is made by DEI (same manufacturer as Viper, etc. etc.) they dominate the alarm business. The istall job I had done was very shoddy at best, but the product is solid.

I'm getting ready to have a Viper 791XV and Viper GPS System installed in my trucks ....
I'm interested about your installation ....
Did they hook it up in such a way as that you now only use the Viper key fob ??
Does holding down the "unlock" on the Viper key fob roll down your windows ?
I guess what I'm asking is whether or not all of the factory key fob functions are "preserved" in the Viper key fob ....
Take it from someone who made a mistake having remote start installed using the factory key fob. Pay the extra and have a quality unit put in that has a long range key fob that can be programed to also handle what the factory key fob does.
My remote start range using the factory key fob is 75-100 feet which I shouldn't complain about since Titan owner's manual states a key fob range of 10 meters (33 feet!). But how I wish for a longer range and options like WazzuCoug talks about above.
The remote start option is like so many other things in life - "I don't need that (before), and How did I get by without that?" (after). Do it right the first time.

Are you using the CrimeStopper SuperRage CS-2011 IV Security and Remote Engine Start System or the Crimestopper CoolStart RS999ER or the Crimestopper CoolStart RS999FM2?
EDIT: Should add the Crime Stopper CS-2016 2-Way FM Paging Alarm & Remote Start System also to the list.
If you've done them all which do you recommend? Nothing like a hands on guy to bleed info from.
Wish I was going to see my in-laws in Fredericksburg, VA. I'd get up your way and give you some business.

Bill_n-
I have an XE without power locks or windows. I just got my cable lock kit in the mail and I am saving that project for a real slow day. I put my power windows in this weekend. However, I dont have the stock functions of the SE/LE with power down windows etc. via the keyfob. The alarm has all the provisions for those same features and more, you just need to do the wiring/have the correct relays etc.
I would never go with the factory keyfob because your range will be dramatically reduced as milleniamarv has stated. My keyfob (although large) works on a different frequency than most standard alarms to help acheive the increased (claimed 1/4 mile) range.
I can appreciate the desire to work on your own truck- god knows that I wont let anyone touch mine for installs unless 100% necessary. I like to know that things were done right. But a remote start is a very serious install. We are talking about the wires and brains that control whether or not your truck is going to start... or start ever again. I am an EE and I love to play all day with electrical anything, but ponder this: If you install yourself, or have a friend do it thats great, but a good certified installer will back your car with a lifetime warranty. Remember that alarms themselfes can be touchy creatures, add an autostart and the potential problems increase. Not to mention the potential warranty problems nissan is going to try to stick on you if there is a problem. I would rather have legal issues with someone I didnt like.
This is not meant to state that mmanley or 1badtitan or anyone else on here are not qualified, I am sure they do outstanding work. After all they have to do a better job than the hack I let touch my poor truck. I had to climb under my truck just to fix their crap.

Oh ....
I have no intention of putting it in myself .....
The mechanical stuff .... no problem ....
But I'm not gonna risk burning out thousands of dollars of electronics ... by making the wrong connection ... to save a few bucks on installation labor ....
Let the "pros" burn that crap up ... then they can pay for it ... LOL
