Is somethig wrong

Somestimes when I park I would put my truck in nuetral first then engage the parking brake, next I would put it in park. Now sometimes I'm able to put it in park without putting my foot on the brake pedal, and other times it would just get to reverse then get stuck until I depress the brake pedal. How is it supposed to work? This is the first automatic i've ever owned so I'm still learning. Thanks in advance guys

That doesn't make sense unless your Titan thinks that when the parking brake is applied you are depressing the brake pedal and allows the shifter to be moved up to the P position. There is a recall about the shifter maybe that is related to your issue. Here is the contents of the recall:

Recall Date: SEP 22, 2004
Potential Number Of Units Affected : 5,600 Read Full
Recall Notice

Defect Summary:
Nissan has determined that some 2004 model year Nissan Titan vehicles may have a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety. There is a possibility that the transmission shift lever assembly for the column shifter may have been damaged during manufacture. The damage could eventually result in the failure of the portion of the assembly that holds the shift lever in the “Park” position when the key is not in the ignition or when the key is in the “Lock”, “Off” or “Accessory” position. This would allow the shift lever to be capable of being moved from “Park” without the key or when the ignition is in a position other than “On”. In some situations, the ability of the shift lever to be moved out of the Park position could result in rollaway of the vehicle and cause a crash.
Remedy:
To prevent this condition from occurring, Nissan is conducting a Voluntary Safety Recall Campaign to replace the shift lever assembly

Good luck...

You are supposed to press the brake pedal in and then change gears from P to R to D etc... I wouldn't worry to much about the things you mentioned. Just PUSH in the brake pedal and then change gears, that' how it's supposed to work. As far as parking, push in the brake pedal, engage the parking brake, and while holding the brake pedal in put the gear shift into P. IE...Don't switch gears without the brake pedal being pushed all the way in.

GOOD LUCK

Also, there is absolutely no need to engage the emergency brake unless you are on a hill. And even then, thats only so that the pawl does not get stuck and prevent you from shifting out of park. If you get some freezing weather down there, you may just find that the emergency brake will not disengage.

Well I like to engage the park brake because I dont like the clunk you get when you try to get it out of park next time you try to drive. This happens because of the extra little roll that the vehicle gets after you let off the brake pedal, when it's in park.

I'm able to go fron Neutral to Park also w/o stepping on the brake. I only tried it twice while in the garage so maybe had I moved it the second time I would have gotten a different result.
I thought you only had to use the brake so the SHIFT LOCK will allow you to move the shifter from Park to Drive...not the other way around...although I use the brake anyhow when I park out of habit.

I have no idea, sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. It seems like if I try to do it right away it works, but if I wait a couple of seconds, to like secure some stuff, then it won't work. I don't know which way it is supposed to work.

in every auto ive owned you have to press the brake pedal to put it in park from reverse and from neutral to reverse, i mean what would happen if you accidentaly hit it into reverse or park while you were doing 55MPH? I know that ive shifted my car into neutral a couple of times from drive by having a cup to close to the shifter, i could only imagine the catastrophe if it didnt have shift lock and it went into reverse at 65MPH!
