OEM Fog light question...

I got the OEM fog light kit for xmas but I haven't had a chance to install them yet. I was looking at the new light switch last night and noticed it has the "Auto" setting on it for the headlights. My truck is an SE and doesn't have the auto lights, does this mean I will now have that function or is it just going to be an extra click to turn the lights on now? Did I get the wrong kit or are they all like that? Thanks in advance for any help.

Jim

No, you will not have the auto function because you will not have the sensor and your computer will not be programmed for it to work. This was discussed in a previous thread and it was brought up that that the auto on feature is a mod that a owner really can't do himself.

From my reading, I dont think thats been proven fact yet. It has not been tested or at least I cant find the results of someone who actually tried it.

The post below is from SoCalBluetooth:

I've investigated the factory service manual and simply installing the optical sensor will not work. The BCM (Body Control Module) must be programmed to enable the "Auto Light" system to work. (Those of you with manuals can look this up for yourselves in Section BCS page 16) This can be done with the Consult-II scan tool the dealer has. Other than having to program the BCM, I don't see why it would not work. I have the SE model which did not come with this feature but I added the factory fog lights and so replaced the headlight stem on the steering column. I am going to the dealer this morning so I'll find out how much the sensor costs. If it's not too expensive, I may order one, install and have them program it. I'm going to have a spare key made which requires programming so maybe I can talk them into giving me a break on the cost of programming since the dealers tend to overcharge for such a simple job.

OK, thanks, I guess I should have searched first. So does that mean it's the only way the kit comes? Wouldn't you think they would send the switch without the auto light function since every truck that has the auto function already has the fog lights standard? Seems odd that the SE & XE's with the O/R package would have that "unused" switch on them. Can someone verify that? Actually, I'll just search. Thanks.

I totally agree. I can see people who buy used Titans with the fog lights added on taking their truck to the dealer to get the auto on feature "fixed".

Thats still not prohibiting someone from doing it. What made him decide not to do it was that there was no harness to plug the sensor into that he could find. He lost the desire to do it when it turned into a hassle.

I thought that the Consult II scan tool that is required is what held him up.

Nah, it might be that thread at the end or another that I talked to him about it. He was selling the sensor becuase of the harness issue.
