I might possibly be a future Titan owner???

After everything I've seen on this site, and magazine articles. I'm very impressed with the Titan's performance and capabilites that come with that performance. I'm not a big fan of the looks of the Titan, but I think I could live with one.

I'm a Chevy guy at heart, so there's no use in even trying to talk me 100% into a titan.

Here are the choices of a truck for me...

2001-2005 Sierra/Silverado 1500, Ext. Cab short bed. I really love the looks of the NBS GM trucks with a 4-6" lift, 33-35" rubbers, and a sweet diamond plate tool box in the bed
2003 Ford F-250 Powerstroke Crew Cab short bed. I'd go for an older model, but I've heard great things from a friend of ours who's a diesel mechanic. He swears by the 6 liter.
2004 Titan. Of course it will be "pre owned" (that's the politically correct term, right? )

I'm a Chevy guy at heart, like I said, and would own a Ford, only if it's a diesel and a Crew Cab model. The titan seems to be a VERY solid pickup. Of course, every manufacturer has problems, not just "the big three". there are lemons, defects, etc, it's not going to be avoided.

I'll be 18 in September of '05, and will be recieving a few grand in cash for an 18th birthday present, and my mutual funds get transferred to me after that date too. So I'll sell some of the funds so I have a heftier down payment and have some $$$ for books when I attend the Junior College here.
So I've got a while longer to decide, probably won't be buying till the end of 05, but yea...The Titan is becoming a possibility!

Seeing that you're so young, the crew cab may not be a need for you but, the Titan is the largest crew you can buy so far. I needed the room so that's why i went that way.
If you're looking for power and performance, even over the HEMI, the Titan certainly won't disappoint. Good luck.

Honestly, for you, stick with a Chevy. The Titan is awesome for someone like myself, but not for a died-in-the-wool Chevy fan.

I say keep your investments where they are and wait....but that's just me speaking from experience. When i was your age, i did the same thing and I regreted it later on. Just something to think about, ya know?

Of course I'd love to have a GM, yet if someone provides a truck that can perform better than than another, and still be in the same price range, it would be suitable. Like I said, the titan is a spossibility, but I'm still thinking I'll wait for it to develop over a few more years, so even the more minor bugs get worked out

And Titantic- I LOVE the lookds of the Super Duty's in a Crew Cab model. Like I said though, I'd have to have the diesel in the Super crew, no 5.4 liter would haul it around that great, and If I was going to get the V10, I'd just get the 6 liter. In the future after college and such, a Diesel might be useful, but not now. That's really the only thing ruling the Ford out for me

Yeah. I figured if I was going to sell some of them, I'd put it towards something useful. Right now I've got approximately $87XX, from what the closing price was today. A grand would easily cover the books and such for the JC, and maybe 1-2 extra to take out to add towards my down payment. The rest will stay, and when I have extra cash, I will add back to my mutual funds. I don't know how to play the stock market of course, yet I'm willing to take some chances.
The other plus to this though, is I think for graduation half the truck should be my graduation present

honestly, do your homework on the titan, dont just take Nissan's word for it, b/c they are full of $#!t, my truck is a week old, i need a new fuel sending unit, a new gauge cluster, a new gas tank, my bed extender is 5 days overdue, they "check engine" light came on about 10 minutes ago, and ive about had it up to HERE!! with all this bull. i dropped 35+K on my 05' titan LE, and im not pleased with the results. Im not regretting my purchase or my choice, im just very, very, very disappointed with the results im seeing from such a manufacturere, its like their testing a drug on me and i just keep getting sicker. i hop after this rocky start my truck will have a bright future, b/c i truly luv nissan, and i am deeply attached to my titan, however if you want a truck, try and find on that has more history to it, b/c the titan to me is still in its' beta testing stage, and they are using your $$$$ for R&D.

I looked at a 4 door Silverado before getting my Titan Crew. Truck was over $40,000 (GM is outta their f'ing minds). I also haggled a Colorado Crew Cab down from $28,500 (another knee-slapper) to the mid 24's before walking out. I can't understand why they don't just price their trucks realistically instead of making them artificially high then trying to lure you in with incentives.

I would at least wait until they work out some of the issues with the Titan - especially the front rotors - I went through 3 sets in 22,000 miles. We've always owned a Nissan and still have an '01 Pathfinder that has been a gem (like the rest of the Nissans we have owned). Honestly, the Titan was the most dissapointing new vehicle that I have ever owned. I traded mine for a new '04 Ram 1500 Hemi.

Eh...I need a new sending unit on my truck, but that's about it. Love it, not afraid of the first model year because I expect it to have problems.

Take it from GEARMAN, Titan is not Nissan's best vehicle, yet. It could be, I love it more than the Maxima I had before it. I've had less problems with my Titan than my Max, but it depends on the driver. I had warped rotors on my Maxima twice in 20,000 miles and it was a 2000 that I had from mile 43,000 to mile 64,000. Best I can figure, the later your build date, the better off you should come out. Good luck, and don't let all of that money burn a hole in your pocket!

Titan is the BEST full size truck out right now, even though it is not Nissan's best vehicle, yet...BTW. The numbers speak for themselves.

Actually, if you are planning on buying later in 2005 you should miss out on the the "bugs" that some of us had with our first year production models. In the meantime you may want to pick up an extra part time job to stash some cash away for your down payment instead of selling off your funds (selling your funds may create a taxable event - better check with an accountant first). Try to keep your investments - once you "raid" your long term savings it's often hard to replace.

I had been a Chevy fan all my life and ended up with the Titan, which I love. I really liked the Silverado I looked at but didn't like the games the dealer was trying to pull. So far haven't had the problems others have. On the mutual funds, when you sell you could get hit with a hefty tax bill come next April, would definitely check before selling. Also, taking out $2-$3K from your funds may not sound like a lot now but over the long term can mean a great deal. The funds will pay out dividends based on the number of shares you own, fewer shares mean fewer dividends. If these dividends are reinvested into the fund you could be talking $10ks over the life of the fund. Putting money back in later will not recover the lost dividends. At 18, just starting college save the money get an old truck - need money for partying, ... I mean books. If possible try to put regular investments into your funds. Get a financial program like Money or Quicken and project out 20 years the growth of the fund, you may be surprised. Sorry for the long answer, but some things to consider.

That is exactly what I was thinking. I know that you are pretty young and WANT (not exactly need) a nice newer truck, BUT I tend to agree with Gearman. Hold off a little while and make some $$$ for your down payment. I know when I was your age I wanted the latest and greatest. Think of it this way, if you take a few grand out and put it as a down payment, when you drive off the lot that down is GONE. Your new truck just became a used truck and you lost probably 4 or 5 grand in value. Just my opinion but I always found that if you learn from others mistakes then you don't have to make your own mistakes.

But again your choice, your cash, make up your own mind. Just consider everything before you jump into something.

ICE

BTW: I have a 6.0L and it's been in the shop almost 30 days in the past two months for the tranny and a rear engine seal leak. They finally replaced the tranny with a rebuilt after trying to fix it twice. I just put it back in the shop today for the brake judder and tranny noises. You REALLY have to watch out if you are looking at Diesels. They make so many mods (chips and tuners) You really don't know what you are getting into if you buy a used Diesel, because it could have been chipped. Quad makes a 160HP chip, that's a lot of extra HP to put on a tranny or engine for that matter. Mine was stock and the tranny exploded, TWICE.

Treebasher, that's a sweet picture.
