Anyone change their engine coolant yet?

Titantalk.com,

Has anyone changed their engine coolant yet? Draining the coolant was no problem. Just having trouble filling her back up. I wanted to put in a fresh mix of 15% coolant w/royal purple ice and the rest water to lower engine operating tempature. I added the 1/2 glallon of anti-frezze and the 16oz Royal Purple Ice and that went in ok. Next i attempted to to her off w/water....but started to overflow very quickly, maybe after only 1/2 gallon. our radiator is supposed to hold 3.25 gallons. Anyone know why i can't top her off?

The service manual show that some sort of pressureized radiator cap adapter is needed to refill

Did you start the truck when you started to top it off?

The manual states that the capacity is 12 7/8 qt with the resovoir or a shy over 3 gallons. So the only thing I can think of is the radiator got drained but not the block, hoses, etc.

Exactly.. you only drained the radiator, there is still coolant all over the place inside engine, hoses, reservoir,...

Make sure rad cap is off first...then turn engine and heat on(Full Heat)...let get to temp and start to squeeze the upper hose gently...you should see bubbles coming out the top, do this over and over again until bubbles stop. On some vehicles you need to do this for about 20 minutes....while doing this do not let the level go down...The best way to fill the rad at the beginning is from upper hose(Distilled water only!!) My wife last winter told me the heat didn't work...When I did the flush I just filled...well there is lots of bubbles in there...looks full, but alot of bubbles in there and it will not heat very well or at all... Good luck

And I just saw that you started engine while draining....you have alot of bubbles in there....Also it helps if the front end is higher also...it takes some time, just let it get good and hot, heat full blast and squeeze

You must remove the drain plug from the engine block to drain all of the coolant. The plug is located on the right side of the engine just below the exhaust manifold. There are instructions and pictures on page MA-13 in the service manual.
