I raced my old Dakota the other day with the Titan, and beat it. The Dakota was dyno'ed at 252 rwhp, so should be over 305 at the crank, and weighs only 3800 #'s. So considering my new Titan weighs 4990#'s, and is rated at only 305 hp, I think there's a few more ponies in there that Nissan is telling us about.
The Dakota is also far from stock: R/T aluminum heads, cams, valves, Mopar M1 intake, 52mm F&B throttle body, Mopar hi performance computer, Kenne Belle CAI, JBA Ceramic Headers, free flow cat, Magnaflow exhaust, 4:11 gears, and some other stuff I'm probably forgetting. Basically, I put about $4000 under the hood.
Titan mod: K&N drop in and stock air box mod.
We ran two different ways. First was from a 45 mph roll. We were dead even up until 95, when the Dakato went into overdrive, and the Titan pulled ahead still pulling hard in fourth.
From a standstill, it was no contest. The Titan just hooked up and went, while the Dakota seemed to either spin like hell, or bog down. The Titan is easy to go fast on, just 3/4 throttle for a few seconds and punch it. The Dakota has MUCH better tires on it, Pirelli Scorpion Zero's, and it has posi rear, so no excuses for no traction.
Kind of sad to beat my old truck, especially considering how much money I put into it. But it makes me very happy about the Titan. Loosing performance was the only thing I was worried about in selling the Dakota and getting a new truck. No worries now.
Next mod: Banks Monster
Just goes to show I'm never satisfied.

Wow i'm impressed with the Titan. I too used to be Dakota fan, I've owned four of them in years past all 4X4s. Two had the V6 and the last two had the Mag. V8. They were all good trucks except the last one, it was plagued with problems from the get go.
Iv'e always wondered how a Titan would stack up against a Dakota, in fact one was giving me the eyeball the other night at the red light..................now I "know no fear".
Thanks for the info.

About a month ago I had a crew cab Dakota try to race me at the light, I beat him very easily.I don't know who was more suprised him or me. I thought such a light vehicle would have the power to weight advantage over my Titan.

good point...but after recently driving my friend's supercharged Honda S2000, my truck is slow and handles like poo lol
I know what you mean. I use to dread getting back in my old 95 Z-71 truck after driving my old 92 LX 5.0.
Although it's about the same difference between my old Z-71 and my Titan now performance wise. lol

I bought the Titan to haul my race bikes to the track. S2000 won't do that for me, and racings in my blood. So yes, I want to get to the track quicker while hauling 3 bikes and a trailer. I know it's not ment to race, but can't I have both?
Wanted: Fast truck to haul fast bikes.

IT is always the torque RPM spread. TITAN is supposed to have 90% all the way down to 1000 rpm's. How else can it tow 9100#. It has a marine camshaft in it. Same type of load. Nissan has a boat person somewhere. LEXUS sells a marine version. NISSAN HAS ONE in the TITAN.
hatchman, where do I start to get on track. I guess I'm asking what track school. I've been thinking about it the last summer or two. I dont want to race just learn and go fast, legal and safe. I guess the closest track to me is VIR.

VIR is an excellent track. I lived in VA Beach for the last 4 years, and I've been there a lot.
Best thing is to go to Aaron Stevenson's Cornerspeed track school. He has a website with all the details. After you take the school, you'll be much faster and a much better rider than ever before. It's also addicting. You have so much more fun on the track than the street, it's like comparing Coke to cocaine. Tell Aaron I sent you, he's a great guy. I'm taking his advanced class at Jennings JP on January 23rd.
