Hold On To Your Door On Windy Days

On windy days, you may want to remind your passengers to hold on to the door. We learned the hard way. After getting our first oil change at the Nissan dealer yesterday, my daughter was entering the front passenger door. A wind guest caught the door and sprung it.

Nissan dealer wasn't very helpful, however the lexus/volvo dealer down the street was great. They spent 30 minutes realigning to new condition and didn't charge.

I did add a comment to the new vehicle survey that this area should be reviewed for renforcement. The door does have a large surface area for wind to catch, however I would hope it could with stand a 15-25 mph wind guest.

Yeah, I had a boss that insisted that we always park the work truck "facing into the wind" whenever we were out doing runway maintenance....but then he was the only one who had ever sprung the door...and he did it really well. It was so bad, that it put a big dent in the front fender. The guys that I work with now have a Ford van. It has a dent in the door...(wind caught it and it hit a pipe bollard), and then recently the same guy let it go, and now it is sprung. It pops open nicely when you open it, but you have to slam it shut. They aren't really very big doors either.
Just hang on... or watch your door go

The worst part of the situation -it was sprung so bad that the door sheet metal rubbed on quarter panel as it opened and closed. Appartently it would not latch, so the kids opened and shut several times until it did latch not realizing they were rubbing paint off the edge of the door. Mean while I was inside telling the general manager how much I enjoyed the truck.

Side note: I was up at the farm today and noticed the door hinges on the 3/4 ton dodge and chevy's were much larger. They also had a larger surface area where attached to the door and frame. On work trucks, door hinges take substantial wear and abuse. I think Nissan will need to revisit this item on the next update. It looks like engineering grabbed a hinge off a car or the frontiner.

I had this happen to my Ford van twice. The couse for this was not the hinge but the door skin where it was connected. We realigned it by sticking a block of wood in the hinge area and forcing it to bend itself back.

This is gonna happen with any car you may have. It's not just a Titan specific problem. Yeah the dealer should have helped, but it's the laws of physics coming into play...big item gets caught by wind. Back when I had my Tundra, I had just backed into a parking spot, guy in a beat up Saturn comes along and backs in next to me (why people in POS cars back in is beyond me). Suddenly I hear a thud on my passenger side. The guy had opened his door and the wind cause it, smacking it into my passenger door. Questioned the guy and he sarcastically said "its not a big deal". Turns out it hit the molding and didn't put a scratch in it, but just irk'd me someone would have an attitude that it didn't matter. Oh well
