Automatic Door Locks

I hate the fact that the Titan, and Nissan in general as far as I know, does not have the auto door locking feature (after you're in the truck, started it and put it in gear or something similar). According to the dealer they can't even program that into the system. I was thinking of adding a one shot time delay relay to the ignition system that would fire the door locks after a preset amount of time. Or maybe adding it to the drive/reverse circuit on the shifter to automatically lock the doors just prior to moving the vehicle. Anyone have any suggestions or comments on doing this?

If you hit the unlock button after you exit the truck the doors will auto lock within 1 minute. I use that feature when I do not want the horn to honk at night. My will arm the alarm automatically if no buttons are pushed but will not lock the doors. I look at it this way, you will never lock your keys in the car because you neet to push the lock or the unlock button on the key fob to lock them. No more locksmiths.

I'm with ya TallTexan. What I'm referring to is after you get in the truck, start it, and place it in gear. Most vehicles are equipped to automatically lock the doors when all of this happens or after a certain speed.

I'm with you garo1! I know on dodge vehicles, I've owned, the doors auto lock when the vehicle reaches 15 MPH. Sure would like to figure out how to do this as a mod. I've dug thru the manual and all (tranny, wheel) of the speed sensor signals are pulses. This makes the relay method impossible. We need some clever electronics guy to build a circuit that can read the pulses and at some frequency fire off a signal to a solidstate relay.

You might know this, but you can hold down both the lock and unlock buttons on your remote for a few seconds to disable the horn honk completely. If you want to re-enable it, you just do the same thing again.
I found the horn honk annoying regradless of the time!

Nissan told me last year that according to polls that they did people do not want the auto-lock feature. I find this hard to believe as I also think it is a great idea.

well, you can buy this unit ( http://www.kptechnologies.net/ ) or get an aftermarket alarm system.

i didnt know that. the titan horn is very loud. i still scare myself when i hit it. i got in the habit of walking about ten feet then locking the door.

i love the feature of auto door lock. added security for those with kids.

I remember when Dodge first put this on their cars people were complaining that you couldn't drive with the door open without unlocking first and there was no way to override this. People drive with the door open more often than you think. I do it every morning when I drive close to and pick up the newspaper in the driveway when I am leaving for work. It is not as big of an inconvenience in a truck being as you have to get out anyway but it would be annoying in my wife's Mitsu.

However, there is probably a greater need now for auto locks than when they first came out due to the increasing number of car jackings.

This is a very cool product!!! I am going to call them to get more info.
I have always wondered why you can roll the winows down with the keyfob, but you can't roll them up
I had the auto-lock feature in my Durango. My wife's Escape does not have it.

If you buy the Viper alarm system you will have the capabilities to roll the windows up. It automatically rolls up on arming the system. Had it in my 02 maxima, took it out on trade in but haven't re-installed it on the titan yet.I've got nothing in the titan to steal ( audio eqpt) like my max. I had the viper 790 and that wasn't even the top line model so I know the pager style model 791 will do it also, just have to let them know to enable that feature.

My Expedition had auto locks and I loved them! The front doors had auto unlock when the driver or front passanger tried to open them. You did not have to unlock them manually. This is one of the 2 "auto" features I miss. The other being auto 4wd. I was thinking about putting another switch in for auto and grab a signal from the SLIP light to put it into 4wd automatically. When the switch is closed AND the slip light comes on 4wd will be engaged for a specific period set by a one shot. Should not be hard to do, just some wire splicing. Just got to get time to do it.

I have an Autopage alarm installed in my Titan and it automatically locks the doors once the vehicle is taken out of park. It also unlocks them a second or so after the ignition is turned off. However, when my driver's side door is locked and I try to open it from the inside it automatically unlocks it. Not sure if that works on any of the other doors. I'll have to try it.
