I was at the dealership the other day to get one of my washer jets realigned, (It somehow got bumped and now it sprays slightly to the side) they didn't get around to fixing it but they told me that my windshield isn't the original one! I know the dealership won't admit to anything that might of happen during the delivery of my truck, so I was wondering if there is another way I can find out why I have an aftermarket windshield on my Titan?
I broke one once on a brand new car during a PDI (new car inspection). I removed the plastic insert that comes on the wiper arm (the blades on BMW are shipped in a baggy inside the car, NOT installed prior to delivery) and I didnt let the arm down gently. The force of the arm's spring combined with a metal arm and no wiper blade shattered the brand new window.
I'm sure there are a thousand careless ways to break a windshield prior to you taking delivery. Maybe it hit a bird while being transported by trailer to a dealer. Maybe it just had a small SCRATCH or Spider crack. On a new car, EVERY imperfection has to be adressed.. unless your dealer is the type to over look these things in hope a customer won't see them. That happens more often than we would like.
REGARDLESS, your dealer is OBLIGATED to disclose these things to you if it is in their knowledge (ie. maybe the transport company fixed it prior to delivering to dealer). So if you ask them and they know, they have to tell you.
If they don't tell you AND they know but are just lying, you can get them in serious trouble.
My windshield says "Carlex AS1" just above the VIN plate on the dash, visible from outside the truck.
Did your service rep specify if the windshield wasn't OEM or if it wasn't original? Thats different to me... They could have replaced with OEM glass (same markings, etc) but the technician may have seen signs that it was not the FIRST windshield that was put in the truck.
Id that's the scenario, the FACTORY might have had to replace the glass. Quite often, windshields are broken during installation. Ask any glass guy, they will tell you the same thing.
No two pieces of glass are exactly identical. Some don't stand up to the stress of installation.
If you don't have any leaks or wind noise, I wouldn't worry. As long as it is OEM glass it is under warranty if you have any issues with the window or air noise/water leaks.
I really wanted to know if your aftermarket windshield has the same embedded tint at the top of the window like the stock ones. Tall guys tend to have issues with it hampering their view. Myself being one of them.

Strange...haven't heard of the windshield switch before.
On the bumped spray jet, anyone else notice the hood hits the spray jets when opening and closing the hood? I notice it hits on the drivers side most.

Without running out to my garage and double checking, I do believe that it has the CARLEX inscription on the lower corner. And yes, it does have the beaded tint around where the rearview mirror is connected. All that theservice guy told me was that it wasn't the original winsheild and that it was an aftermarket one. No, it doesn't leak or anything, but I don't want to be paying to get my washer jet replaced if it wasn't reinstalled properly after c/o the windshield.
My windshield was cracked at 300 miles on the odo. I have been told by the dealer and by several glass shops locally (SLC, UT) that the OEM windshield is the only replacement available for the Titan at this time. I would be interested to find out if there is an aftermarket replacement available now. The OEM replacement is much more than my deductable, so I continue to stare at the the crack.

After a stress facture the first month I had my Titan, the glass
was replaced by Safelite. They used the Carlex AS1 but didn't
use a "factory" gasket/seal. The one they used is not as wide
as the original so Fauch, you might check the size of the gasket
against a Titan on the lot to see if you may have an aftermarket
install.
