Question bed covers

I'm looking for a good quality, hard top, locking bed cover for the truck. I know a few of you have them. I was wondering whats you favorite and how are they holding up? I like the idea of the fold-a-cover or the kcover. I want to be able to roll it or fold it out of the way to put something big in the bed. For those of you who have those covers let me know if you're happy with them or not.

Thanks,
Eric

Talking

I have the Retrax. Fits great and the fit and finish is great as well. I paid $750 delivered. It takes about 12 inches of length and about the same in depth. I had to remove the front utilitrack pieces to attach. Somebody else in the forum was able to leave them on, however, they are covered by the Retrax and can't be used. It is very strong and you can actually lay on top of it. Good luck!

Casique, I am considering the Retrax as well. Do I understand you correctly in saying you lost 12" of bed lenghth ? I was hoping they weren't so invasive as the CC is short enough as is.

Where did you find it at that price? I was quoted $925 for it. Please measure the depth in the bed lost too. I'm hoping there is a fair amount of height under the box too. Somewhere I thought I read the box was more like 8 or 9 inches square.

Bed Cover (Advance K-Cover)

I recently purchased the K-Cover and drove through rain and snow over the holidays. No leaks. No problems in -10 degrees weather either. I definitely like the folding feature and it will be extremely easy to remove when I want to haul stuff. The only problem I had was with installation (my fault - didn't carefully read the instructions on the gasket installation).

can u guys attach links/pics of the covers on your truck, i havent decided whether i want a hard cover like the gaylord or a soft leather one that you can fold out of the way, i think the pic of the gaylord cover is awesome, same color as my truck so it really gives me a real life look at what my truck will look like. Appreciate ur time and effort for reading this guys.

Titan hopeful,
How difficult was the installation? That is the cover I'm looking at but, I don't know if I want to go through the install myself unless it's worth the effort. Can you fold all 3 pieces out of the way and then have the availability to use the track system?
Thanks

I've got the Retrax myself....and saying you lose 12" is a little misleading.....the canster holding the top is approxmately 8" or so above the bed floor.....so if you don't haul a lot of long stuff it might work.......BTW I love mine....it's great....

I got Gaylord too. It has been 3 weeks and finally it will be install this weekend.
LLKZ16, I saw your picture. It looks great. I think I made a right decision to have Gaylord instead of A.R.E

Pics of my k-cover

I love the K-cover.

I guess my only issue is that for 2 days the locks were pretty frozen and wouldnt budge...but I don't really fault them for that.

Pyromedic,

The installation took me about 3 hours. If I had to do it again, it would take about 1 hour I think. If you are even somewhat mechanically inclined you should have no problem. There are really two parts to the installation:

1. Installing the seals.
2. Installing the brackets and cover in the Utilitrack..

Installing the seals was the part I messed up and though I was trying to be careful I misunderstood the starting position in relation to the front part of the box. Make sure that the seals are positioned relative to the outside front edge of the box, not the inside edge (seems obvious in hindsight). Also, don't trim the seals at the back end of the box until after the cover is installed (per instructions). Regardless, I butted up seals to get the correct length and caulked with silicon and have no leaks. I've purchased additional seals for a permanent fix in the future.

Installing the brackets was very easy and the instructions were clear. The only problem I had was that my Utilitrack was installed upside down so I had to purchase a Torx bit set to change it around.

As for folding positions, the 3 back parts fold forward on top of the first section and are secured with snaps while driving. You can fold the cover sections forward or backward for loading/unloading. The only fixed point is at the hinge after the front-most section (the hinge is fixed to the clamp).

Here are some additional K-cover shots. I have been very pleased, shipped for 647.
ADVANCE, K-COVER install

Two locks, fore and aft.

Assemble the brackets before sliding them into the track.

Did water get uner the rubber cover or was it condensation that froze?

Despite the truck trouble hope the cover is holding up!
