Truck acting weird..

A brief history...
My wife went out in the morning a couple of weeks ago and my windows were down and the truck wouldnt start, funny thing is I didnt put the windows down, they went down on there own. Anyway, I would turn the key and the dash lights came on, without the switch on, and the truck wouldnt turn over. I checked the battery just for kicks and it was fine.
Nissan had to come tow it to the dealer. As the tow guy was trying to lift it on the flat bed, the headlights came on...and of course the switch was off.
Nissan said that when they got my truck it started right up
They said that since my 350Z key was on the same key ring it was tricking the security system into thinking the wrong key was trying to start it.

Now, yesterday morning at 4am the trucks alarm went off for no apparent reason.
This morning I got off work and went to start the truck and it did the same crap as last time, turn key dash lights come on no start. I kept messing with it for 10 minutes or so and the truck finally would turn over, but it wouldnt start. I let it sit for about 5 minutes and it started right up.

I have kept the 350Z key away from the Titan key so Im thinking that had nothing to do with it.
Im stumped.

***UPDATE***
Well, its doing it again right now. Put the key in the ignition, turn the key and the dash lights and parking lights come on but no start. This is pissing me off....
Im sure today being Sunday, I wont be able to get a hold of Nissan.
Anybody have this happen to them??

Just went outside and it turned over and over and over then it started.
This makes me mad because its another "Nissan cant duplicate"

It sounds like one of your key fob buttons is being held down. Sometimes when I have my keys in my pocket one of the buttons on the key fob gets pressed by another key or my pocketknife. If you hold the unlock button down the windows will roll down. Maybe check the other key fob (in the wife's purse maybe). The truck may not start if one of the buttons is being held down.

I agree about the key FOB window down situation. The headlight problem is probably a bad relay or something of the like and the no starting is a computer chip proximity key issue IMO. Sorry you have an electrical gremlin that is giving you grief. I hope you catch the b@st@rd and skin him alive.

Check into the TSB's. I think there was one that address that, or something similar at least. I don't know, just a thought??

Love; That is similair to what happend to me. For me it was the last straw. My problem was this. I was driving down the road and all of a sudden my windows went down. That startled me to say the least. I then tried to put up the drivers window, when I pressed of the drivers switch the passenger side went up! All of a sudden my

window switches work the opposite they should. This happened twice. As I said that was the last straw, I now have an 05 and am hoping all the bugs are worked out.

Im pretty sure its not a stuck key fob button, not the way its acting. I almost think the cold has somthing to do with it. I will see what happens when I leave work tonight.

I cant drive the Z to work, unless my truck is broke down. I work on a gravel road.

Member 40-DAN was having similar problems... truck wouldn't start and lights were acting wierd. Ended up being a short in the electrical wiring located near the parking brake. When the parking brake was engaged it was pressing against some wires and creating a short in the system. You may have the same problem.

Damn that is a good memory. I thought the problem sounded familiar.

Yeah - feel free to PM me on this one. It took SEVERAL trips to the dealer to find the problem. If you search my posts here, you should see more detail than you ever wanted.

Dan

Oh, and TriKKy... don't credit his memory too much. He's sitting about 10 feet from me ATM. It was an easy problem for him to recall.

Sounds like you may have a BCM issue or an IPDM issue.

I had a similar problem strand me on my third day of ownership. I concluded that it was my Mobil Speedpass transponder interfering with the immobilizer system. See this service bulletin for details.

After separating my Speedpass from my keys, I have been trouble-free for 4 months now.

hmm...I dont have a speedpass but I wonder after reading the tsb if I shouldnt even hang the Z key next to the Titan key on my key rack.

I will give Nissan a call later today and see what they say.
