Nissan Reports Best Calendar Year U.S. Sales in History
NSANY reported December total sales of 92,268 units for its Nissan and Infiniti divisions, a 32.7 percent increase versus December of last year.
Titan = 8,205 Dec sales.
Toyota did well
F & GM are still sliding.

Sales for Nissan this year are up 32.7% Woo-hoo!!!
GM & Ford both fell and Toyota is up 18%. The article lists the new Pathfinder as being a big help but you have got to be proud of our parent company!!
You'll note in the article that Ford declared 2004 the year of the car and was banking on the 05 Mustang to boost its sales and Nissan's #1 reason for its jump in sales was the new look Pathfinder which is an SUV. Way to call that one Ford!!
Funny thing about that figure, just to keep it all in perspective, is that 92K is still smaller than the total number of F-150s sold in 1 year... Nissan's got a LONG way to go. Here's to hoping!

Another way to put it in perspective -
Total # of years full size Ford trucks have been in existence: approx 105 years
Total # of years full size Nissan trucks have been in existence: approx 2 years

Hmmm...not sure Ford is sliding. They sold more F series trucks this year than any year in Ford history. Don't know about their cars, but I really don't care...would never buy a Ford car.
But ya have to consider Ford produces considerably more units than Nissan does. I think Toyota and Nissan are finally making a dent, albeit small right now, in the big 3's sales. They've been doing pretty damn well in the passenger car market, but I think with the introduction of the Titan, it shows the big 3 that they aren't on top anymore like they have been for decades

Ford’s U.S. sales are down 4.9% for the year or 3.6% percent in December or worse still 10th monthly decline of 2004.
Make of it as you wish.
I like Ford, but they are missing the market, or is it the market simply has more options?

one thing that is often overlooked is that getting into the full size truck market being a foriegn competitor is like trying to break into a bank with a squirt gun--you may fool a few people but more than likely you will end up getting shot and killed. the full size truck market is unique to north america and is TOTALLY dominated by the big 3. the fact that they BUILT it in the US, DESIGNED it in the US by US designers and marketed it perfectly with a quality product that actually won awards the first year out of the box is almost unbelievable. the fact that ford sold 800,000 more is of no consequence as this is their bread and butter but many critics have picked the titan as a better PRODUCT.
name other foriegn companies who have tried to break into a closed off market and have done as well....maybe yugo....um, maybe not...

LE Canteen Crew, 4X4, BT, OR to which I added: SS Brake Lines, Advanced Folding K-Cover ,SS Lund deflector, Black Prism DunderDan grill (I hope it's coming soon), 4" Prerunner Greg Performance Lift, The first Zoomers SS exhaust ever shipped, Volant Gen III CAI, and Chick's Hulk engine cover, custom A-pillar with 1in guages (coming soon).
As Money Allows: Nismo Headers, Dynatech 2.25" Powercats (Damn Missouri and your air quality) Osirus, Trutrac, Stillen (sway bar, big brakes, diff cover), and PrerunnerTraction Bars.
Maybe this will explain some of those numbers. This is taken from that MSNBC article:
Truck sales fell slightly less than 1 percent for the year, but Ford’s F-Series lineup retained its position as America’s best-selling vehicle for the 23rd straight year. Truck sales include pickups, vans and sport utility vehicles.
I beleive the biggest reason Nissan could take such a large bite in the first full year of production is that the market does not have many options, and there are people (like me) who have become jaded with Big 3 offerings and are looking for more choices. Toyota could not compete in a full-size market because the Tundra is not a fs truck. The Titan was a first choice because it was a Nissan, and the ONLY choice after I drove it. It handles like no other pickup out there. I will admit to having reservations about going with a first-year model, but so far, my late (September build) 2004 SE CC 4x4 is going strong.
