Question about upgrading mirrors on XE

So I got me a great deal on Ebay. Bought brand new SE pwr windows for $155 for both mirrors. Got them mounted couple days ago, but still waiting on pwr switch and finishing plate, which brings me to my question. The site I ordered my parts from (nissanpartsdistributor.com) tells me now that the power finisher plate is not availabe yet from Nissan. This is the plastic bezel plate that covers the pwr controls on driver-side door. Now, I know I read on here somewhere from others who have done this, that they replaced this plate. I'd rather replace this plate instead of notching out the original one, especially since it's only like $4.

Can anyone who's done this upgrade help me out......

Also, I'll be selling the XE mirrors if anyone's interested.

Thanks,
Steve

Here's a heads up. The XE CC is not pre-wired for the pwr mirrors as some have mentioned here. Found this out the hard way. So, in addition to the pwr mirror switch, you'll also need to buy both ds and ps SE CC front door harnesses to replace the existing ones. I installed the mirrors and switch on my truck the other day, only to find out when opening the door panel that there was no pigtail coming off the main door harness for the mirror. Dealer showed different p/n's for XE CC vs SE CC. I ordered the harnesses a couple days ago from Jamie at Titanparts247 (Sponsor). Jamie was also under the impression that the harnesses were the same, until he pulled up the p/n's I gave him and he confirmed they are diff.

So, here's everything you should need as far as I know:

(1) Switch assy-mirror P/N#25570-5Z000 $42.16 (nissanpartsdistributor.com)
(1) Finisher-Power (switch cover trim) P/N#80961-7S000 $1.82 (same place)

(1) Harness Assy-door, Front RH P/N#24124-8S100 $34.53 (Jamie)
(1) Harness Assy-door, Front LH P/N#24125-8S100 $38.18 (Jamie)

I would order everything from Jamie. Nissanpartsdistributor.com was very slow getting the switch out to me.

Note: There's no returning the harnesses, if for some reason they're not the correct ones, according to Jamie. I won't know for sure until I receive mine.

Here's a link to my post explaining how to replace mirrors and opening door interior panel. The switch install is pretty straight forward.

Removal of mirrors

so with these new harnesses, if we wanted to add power windows and locks later down on the road all we would need is the switch pannels and hook them up(and of course the hardware for the power windows and locks)? I mainly would be just interested on the power locks unless I get an aftermarket alarm.

If you get an XE CC, you get pwr locks/windows standard. But if you get the XE KC, you don't get either, so then you have to install everything. Others with XE KC models have done this here. I know Pciley, for sure has done this and posted detailed instructions on the upgrade.

Funny you should ask, considering I finally got my pwr/heated mirrors working just today! There's good and bad news here.....first the bad. Even with the SE door harnesses, it is not plug and play. This is because the XE main dash harnesses do not fully support the SE door harnesses. Turns out there are about 6 different main harnesses and 4 different door harnesses, depending on trim and accessories. So, long story short.....you have to make up another harness to interface the d/s and p/s mirrors.

The good news is that you can use the oem pwr mirror switch, and the SE harnesses will work once you provide the mentioned custom interface harness. If you want the heat function on the mirrors (I did) you have to provide a separate pair of wires and a dash-mount switch to make it work. Even the 12V supply power has to be provided for both pwr and heat functions. Even though your fuse box has a fused 10 amp circuit for mirrors, there's no wiring provided from the fuse block! I won't kid you....this turned out to be much more of a project than I'd hoped for, but if you got the time and patience, it's doable. Nissan clearly did not intend for the XE to be upgraded with SE mirrors!

I'm planning on posting a "how to" on this mod, since there are probably others who may want to do this. I'll put up pics and modified factory schematics to ease some of the pain, though. Should have it up within a week, hopefully.

I would really appreciated if you did post it. I am still waiting for the harnesses to come in. Today I will be picking up the switch and the finisher plate so I can really get started. Did you use the SE harnesses or did you make your own? I already have the switch I will use to heat the mirror. So did you get the power source from the main dash harness or did you run it from the fuse box? Sorry if it sounds like I am asking a lot of questions, but since you already did the mod it would save me some time thanks.

Yes, you'll use the SE harnesses, but you'll end up cutting off one of the two supplied conn for each door harness that normally would go to the main dash harness. The XE door harnesses only have one main dash harness connector, the SE/LE have two. The new harness that you'll make up will interface between these cut wires at each door harness, but you'll also be adding some add'l wires for 12V power, and mirror heat switch (6 wires total). I supplied my 12V for both pwr and heat functions from the interior fuse box. I used the designated mirror pin-out (10P, fuse #5) so that it would be consistent with oem schematic. The 12V, 15 amp circuit for the heat function is normally supplied by the IPDM computer when a relay is activated by the switch on the hvac controller (we don't have this switch on our XE's). For this reason, I bumped up the mirror fuse size to 15 amps, instead of 10. There is no wire from this fusebox conn (10P) on the XE's, so you have to add one to the modular connector by removing one from another connector on one of the old door harnesses. I used a 14 gauge wire, which is more than big enough. Of course, you could just grab any 12V ACC supply and use an in-line fuse, instead.

I should be finished w/ the schematic soon, and will try to post it up with some pics this weekend sometime. Hope this helps, for now.

Steve

I got my harnesses today every thing is connected except for that brown connecter that hangs out from each harness. Is this the one that you have to cut to interface both harnesses? Can you tell me what each color cable from this connecter is for? Grey, Blue, Black, Purple etc... So that I know which is power, ground, heat function. Am i correct in thinking that I will be connecting the blue cable from the d/s with the blue cable from the p/s harness and so on?

Yes, the two brown connectors are the ones you'll cut and splice to the new fabbed harness. I don't have the schematic with me right now, but here's what I remember. The 3 wires that operate the directional motors on the mirrors are Y/B (yellow/black), V/W (violet/white) and SB (solid blue). The heat element wires are the GR/W (gray/white). There is one of each of these on each brown conn. The 12V supply for the dir motors is a G/R (green/red) wire and is only found on the driver side brown connector. The 12V supply from the new mirror switch will connect to both the GR/W wires. You won't have to worry about a ground for either circuit because it is provided in the other (white) connectors on each harness.

Sounds like you've already installed the new harnesses, but do yourself a favor and disconnect the main harness conn's and pull them back thru the door jams. You'll need to do this to make your splices; in fact, I think it's impossible to do it otherwise. This is why I used molex conn's and made up pigtail sections from the brown harness conn wires so that once fed thru the door jam, I could easily just plug it into my new harness plug. You could also just use m/f crimp-on disconnects, as well. I have pics and dimensions of my harness I'll try to post this weekend with the schematics.
