5000 miles with 5000lb load

Getting ready for a big test of the Titans towing abilities. Leaving 2/8 towing my 21' enclosed v-nose full of quads from VA to Glamis in SoCal. With 4 quads and all the gear I estimate the trailer weights around 5000lbs.

I towed the trailer to IA back in Oct just after I bought the truck and avg 8.5mpg, hope it does better this time. I only had 1000 miles on the truck when I started that trip, 9000 now, but I'll have a couple extra quads this time so an extra 800lbs or so. We also ran 75-80mph that trip which I'm sure didn't help.

I've changed the rear diff to Redline 80w140 full synthetic, and run a prodigy controller, any other advice you guys can offer?

I also ordered a Truxedo from Jamie at http://www.nissanparts247.com that will go on before the trip.

Got back from the trip yesterday, 4970 miles and no problems at all. Truck towed great other than some wind push when passing the big rigs. We averaged 9.8 mpg and 58.9 mph, not too bad considering the load.

After this trip I've decided I need a bigger trailer, probably a gooseneck.

Yes, this was my first time in the dunes and I'll definately be going back.

I took 2 Cannondales, one with a 468cc Falicon stroker motor and what a blast. There where about 20 of us that met up and it was a great trip.

Unfortunatly, my 16 year old son was recovering from a broken collarbone (flipped his 426ex in the whoops section of our mx track) and couldn't go.

Jaybr, you might already know, but there is a big indoor MX in Harrisburg PA this weekend. Quad and bike classes. I'll be spectating Saturday, I'm too old brittle to race MX, so I stick to the woods.

lol, I'm too old and brittle to race anything.

My son races some, and alot of friends race, I mainly watch and help in the pits.

After the last week, I better stay home this weekend. I was suppose to go to the Powersports Dealer show in Indy

Warning!!! Nissan does not recommend fifth wheels or goosenecks for
the Titan. If you do decide to put a mount in the bed be very careful
drilling as the fuel tank is close to the bed. You might want to use a
full width plate in the bed to get clearance around the tank. I have
read that people had to remove and move the fuel tank to mount a
fifth wheel hitch. This info was from a towing forum and I do not have
personal knowledge to verify this. Take it as a warning to be careful
and be sure whomever is doing the mounting inspects things underneath
before starting the install. Also you might think of upgrading the tires to
a D rated LT tire to get stiffer sidewalls as both the 17 and 18 inch tires
are not the best for serious towing. If you do use the stock tires I would
be very sure you run with maximum air pressure on the rear tires. Both
types of stock tires tend to have too flexible of a sidewall and it can cause
wierd handling while heavy towing. Good pick on your brake controller I
love mine. If you don't have big tow I would think of adding a automatic
temperature gauge so you know what is going on with the tranny.

Good Luck
