Back from record storm in Mammoth - Glad I have a Titan! (Pics...)
Just got back from 4 days in Mammoth, during which they had the worst storm in 30 years. Very heavy snow and 80+ mph winds for 4 days straight and still snowing when I left this morning.
The Titan ripped through it all (in 4WD) of course. I even tried to get stuck, but couldn't!
Check out the 20+ feet of snow at my hotel patio door - and I was on the SECOND FLOOR!
Wow! Those are some cool pictures!
Haven't had as much as a flurry since I got my Titan, but we got blasted the weekend after I bought my Tacoma in November of 99. I sold a 5 liter Mustang to get that truck, and it's so nice to have something that you know will go through a mess like that. I doubt I'll ever buy a car again!
I was up their at the same time (got stuck in 98mph winds off GoldRush!!). Wound up heading over to Canyon. Hell of a good time. It was fun watching people struggle with their chains while blasting right by them. I posted some pics in a previous thread.
Dave, Thanks for the cool pics! Glad I missed it though. We had a big ice storm here with about 4-6" of snow on top of it last week. It was fun to check out the 4 wheel drive in the new Titan. Mine did very well just as yours did. Bet you're glad to be home!

Just so you know, I was one of those guys with chains and you know what, no problem bra. 2 wheel drive Titan KC SE, even with the crappy Wrangler tires that everyone *****es about. We snowboarded Kirkwood and Tahoe and the 2wheel drive was fine. Makes me laugh a little that my girlfriend and I traveled 4400 miles in 21 days across Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, California and back through some of the craziest weather and the truck was solid even WITHOUT 4 wheel drive. Yes, we had to drive a little slower than the 4x4's in the 15 feet of snow but we always met up with them at the same rest stops.
Sure I could have used the 4x4 at times but all it would have done for me is let me go about 10 miles an hour faster. We stayed in Markleeville / Woodfords on Carson Pass in the heart of the storm (photos also attached).
We drove through Carson Pass, Tioga Pass and made it to Bishop, CA. without any problems. Driving through those 70 mile an hour gusts and whiteouts as well. We did have to stop in Bishop to take the chains/cables off, however, that took about 5 minutes.
Anyway, just wanted to let all the 2 wheel drive Titan owners out there know that they should not be afraid of getting stuck or not being able to 'keep up' with the 4x4's, in fact, we got about 390-420 miles per tank which I thought was excellent. I was not very light on the pedal as well.

I know what you mean about trying to get stuck. I got my Titan around Thanksgiving just as we got 4' in the San Bernardino Mtns(So Ca.) I filled the a$$ end with snow and mobbed everyehere. Passing 10-20 flatlanders with chains on at a time on the highway. In the last 72 hours we have had almost 30" of rain and massive flooding up here in Crestline and once again the Titan pulls through, delivering sandbags and getting through sticky, washed out areas to clean out drains and creeks. It's more fun than work!
Ok ok, you got me going now just a few more misc pics, we had an unbelievable time on the road!!! That bloody truck is so comfortable and smooth on the hwy that it was so easy to just drive and drive. I am at 16,000 miles and I just got the thing in July!!! Oh well, thats what their for I guess. I promise I wont post anymore pics, dont want to piss anyone off. Coming from Alberta I have never really seen the desert before except Moab but the wide open space and Joshua trees, cacti, etc are absolutly incredible! Glad I moved to Texas!!
That is the truck of trucks!! the license plate said 'Budman66'
The photo of the cove is a surf spot my friend took me too, it was beautiful, the waves were perfect, I had a long board so the break was sooooo long and smooth. I love CA. Surfed, skated and snowboarded all on one trip - ahhhh, thats a vacation I say!! One day I will have to realize I am 33 - but not yet.
Soanso,
Not looking to disrespect my Titan brethren. I'm sure you handled it like a champ. I saw a lot of SUV's and prerunners having a b*#ch of a time though. It sure is nice feeling safe and confident when Mother Nature throws her best at you and you're cruising along on a solid platform.
A couple more pics for you. I took some more with a disposable camera during the brunt of the storm, I'll try to scan them when I get a chance.
