Fixed mysterious popping noise

For the past couple of months I have heard a popping noise every now and then that sounded like it was coming from under the hood. It would only do it at speeds above 75 mph[yeah I know that's over the speed limit] and would be worse with a side wind. It would move around from one side to the other, man it was driving me nuts. I checked everything to make sure all was tight and could come up with nothing out of the ordinary. Finally two days ago In desperation I removed the bug shield, it's easy to remove just 5 screws. And lo and behold, no more popping!!!! Now if I can only figure out how to put it back on without the noise returning....

If it's OEM, someone else had a similar problem. Might consider replacing it with an aftermarket (I have a Lund and have no problems).

How do you like your lund? Do you have a pic of it? I was thinking about getting one but appearently the OEM one is not a popular choice. Thanks!

Bought my Lund on line. Clear one and had it painted ( back side ) to match the truck. Nice bug shield. Gives you room to clean behind it. They run about $50.00. Had the truck up over 80 mph with no problems.

I have the Lund X-Terminator (got it for about $50 including shipping from pitstopautoparts.com). It's not as wide as the normal bug shields, which I really like. Also, VERY easy to install. Picture attached. Later, Richard

I did the same thing as HERBPOV. Get a clear one and have it painted. I barely notice it's there on my BLACK CC

I've got the Lund on mine, also. No rattles, pops, or vibrations. Very good fit.

Simple logicjunky-- when I rob banks (my "real" profession), it makes it harder for the coppers to track me down!!

EDIT: hey logicjunky, I just took the picture prior to posting it, and did you notice my truck was clean-- that sure doesn't happen very often!!

Bowhunter....just mount a big ol set of Whitetail Antlers up there, or maybe an old compound bow...that oughta do it.
