Were the lug nuts over-tightened at the factory causing this problem on some? 3.) Was there a bad run of brake pads?
On mine the judder happened all of a sudden, stopping at a light. From some threads it sounds like mine wasn't that bad, but it was unmistakable. I thought I was not going to get it, but it was like flipping a switch.

I have over 13,000 miles with no problems at all on brakes. Very early on (roughly 1500 miles) on JetTech's advice, I re-torqued the lug nuts to 85 ft/lbs. instead of the Nissan recommended 95 ft/lbs. I wonder if some of the brake issues are related to factory over-torque of the lug nuts?? I know mine were VERY tight (didn't check, but I had a lot of trouble breaking them loose to re-torque). My thoughts.

I had my Titan in at a little over 4000 for the brake problem. They did turn the rotors so it will not suprise me that I will be in again before 15000. I do not tow and have not carried a lot of weight in the bed. While I do not drive like a sunday driver I'm not that hard on the truck. I have had to change rotors on my civic but that was not until almost 50,000.

I also retorqued my lugs not long after I bought my Truck.

I wonder if a lot of the people that don't have the Judder (16,000 miles now) started driving in vehicles with drum brakes?

Here lately I've been paying attention to other drivers braking habits and I've found some interesting differences between my driving style and others on the road.

1.) I seem to follow the car in front, from a much greater distance than most.
I also break out of packs rather than follow butt to tail. If I pass you on the left I'll just stay there. If you pass me on the left and then cut in front of me, I'll move over into the left lane to drive alone.

2.) I let off the gas earlier, I'm on the brakes later, harder, and back off of them faster, than 9 in 10 people I follow.(I see lots of brake dragging)

3.) In traffic, I see brakes flashing non stop from others around me while I'm feathering the throttle. ( I look down the road, Rather than at the taillights of the car in front of me. )
(And is it me or has everyone noticed a significant increase in rearend accidents since the introduction of anti-lock brakes?)

I learned this type of driving in vehicles with drum brakes and standard transmissions.
It's just an observation, data that might be useful.
I'm in no way defending Nissan ,or their Brakes.

True, I bet that makes a difference. I never experienced judder problems until I started driving in fun-filled St. Louis when I visited my sister a whole bunch awhile back in my Maxima. That's when the issue really exploded. Bumper to bumper is the only option on most highways and roads there. I think you are on to something there Squid.

Now as for defending Nissan:

Yep, I've lived in a lot of big cities like Insane Diego CA. and Kansas Bar-B-Q City MO. and in places like those your stuck.I wonder how many repeat judder victims live in places like those?

I really think this poll needs redone. Can you make it a 2 part poll. Mileage and Big or large city driving.(stop and go traffic)etc.

And as far as the dog goes only if they make footballs. Hey maybe Nissan does and thats why they don't last?

The brake problem is common in larger vehicles such as ours. I had my brakes rotors go at 3500miles. Dodge also has a TSB for this. They turned rotors, and replaced calipers, and pads with new designed ones, and i have no problems. I am curious if nissan is just turning, or are they replacing pads, or calipers that cause the problems? I will also ask coal's Dodge/Nissan for some info. If anyone dont know i drive parts for dodge, so if i am up there when they are open i will try to ask them something.

Almost 10k miles on my Titan. Delivered to dealer lot Dec. 2003, bought March 2004. No judder yet....but after saying that I'm sure I jinxed myself.

Hope I don't get the judder shudder, but if I do, I may just look into trading it in. I agreed with myself to pay alittle extra to go (gas MPG). But I won't pay extra to stop!

i am in no way a lawyer, nor do i pretend to be. having said that, i think that if you have documented your visits for brake issues, and there is a TSB on the brake issue, there is no way that nissan can deny warranty coverage during the warranty period or even after the warranty has expired for that issue. obviously, it has to be the same issue. that is why it is important for anyone with brake issues to take it in immediately for service. it will make it that much easier later to get work done when this happens at 37,000 miles. just a thought on how i see it.
