Pics of Extang RT

Some of you guys asked for Pics of the Extang RT installed. Well sorry it took so long, SH!TTY weather out here. I like it but haven't had any other covers to compare it too.

Install was easy.
There's two rails labeled driver and passenger. 2 clamps for each side. put 2 clamps on each rail and tighten with allen wrench that is provided. Snap in front of cover, tighten two front slide out lockers, unroll and snap in back. Maybe 30 minute install at most, it took me about an hour and a half (counting in time going to fridge and avoiding wife ). Only reason for the hour and a half was the wife was pissed at me and I drank about 4 beers before the install and about 5 during the install.

That's pretty much it. Directions are simple. It's a nice cover and the $287 shipped price tag was even better. I also like the fact that the clamps double as tiedown hooks.

The tailgate comes open no problem. On the last pic you can see the lock, you just push it up and roll up the cover. Easy as pie sober or lit. That reminds me I bought a bottle of Capt. Morgans at the store last night.

See you in a bit

I like it too.
Never have had a bedcover.
If you roll it up, is it secure to 70 MPH?
Sober.

Looks great, but I'm going to guess that it won't work with the utili-rack bed system. Have you had it long enough to see about any mpg improvements?

I haven't tried driving with it rolled up yet, Squid. Maybe I'll do that tomorrow when I'm out. I'll tell you how it works out at about 65 to 75.

daltongc, I really don't know the answer to the utiliti track question, since I don't have the utilitrack I never looked for something compatible with UT. I'm not expecting any meaningfull gains in MPG, I bought it mainly cover the stuff I buy from Sams on the hour drive home. The truck has been getting better at each fillup so I don't know what to make of the last fillup. The cover was on before the last fillup and my MPG went up to 19.81 from 17.86. But that was with hwy driving too instead of just around town. So did the cover do it or the hwy??? I'll have to check this fillup and get back to you to tell for sure, no hwy on this tank.

Also Squid, it has 2 clasps that secure the cover when it's rolled up, probably like most others. I doubt that it anything will happen to it, because it clamps in plus it has 2 seperate slide lockers that lock the front part down.

We'll see???

that was pretty funny. The wet dream part, NOT the fact that you are getting bad MPG.

Sorry man, I wasn't saying that to start any milage thread sh!t or cause any trouble. I wish everyone got about the same, like it should be. That's why in most of the milage threads I don't say a word. I feel bad for some of you guys. 10 to 12 MPG is BULLSH!T!!!!
Edit: UNLESS YOUR TOWING, otherwise 10 to 12 is BULLSH!T!!!

So, you decided to take my advice and get ther Extand Rt, how do you like it? Did you get as good of a deal as I did? Also I'm glad you posted some pics, cause I've been to lazy to wash mine and break out the camera! Anyway it looks good and let me say you have good tasted in color choice too.

I'd keep an eye on the Extang. I just talked to a dealer intially wanting just to get a Sport Master slanted side "snap" cover. He said they only carry Access and Extang covers. He put the Extang roller on his own personal vehicle and was very dissatified. He got water leakage.

Since I told him water tight was my main goal, he recommended the Access Roll Up and said those are very good in keeping the water.

The only reason why I brought this up is so that you'll be aware and to keep an eye out for water leakage. That way you can seal it somehow, before your stuff gets ruined.

Have a good one.

Yep, sure did. I got it for $287 shipped, which if I remember right was only about $20 or so more than you paid. I like it alot. It doesn't flap or anything and is real tight on the back. I like the Red Brawn, but the wife doesn't. Oh well, it isn't her truck

It has a few spots (the corners) that need to be sealed, besides the tailgate. I haven't got around to doing that yet, but I think once the few spots are sealed then it should be fine. I really wasn't expecting a 100% water proof cover anyway. A good 95 to 99% would be good enough for me. If I wanted a completely water proof seal, I would have went with the hard cover. Only thing with that is that you lose alot of flexibility that you have with a roll up. I could take the Extang off in a matter of 5 minutes unlike a hard top. Thanks for the tips though and I will try and find out where the leaks are and seal them.
