Dealer Hurts Titan

Well, I went in for my first oil change today. That was going great, 30 minutes. As I went outside to look at a couple of the new 05 Titans, I see the tech slowly backing my Titan out of the maintenance stall and right into the side of the shop's entrance door. Nice big dent on the reart bumper. I went straight to the shop manager and pointed it out. The tech even said he was sorry, but wasn't used backing up a big truck in the small service bay. After they tried to clean it up, a 5" scratch is still in the chrome. The body shop guys came up and tried to get it out - no luck. Heaven forbid - the service manager says we'll get you a new bumper. They had it installed in an hour. No arguments at all. Thank goodness I was standing there when the damage happened.

There is something to be said for taking digital photos documenting the condition of your truck prior to any service visits.

I am glad to see them take care of you.....I suggest you do as I do...EVERY....EVERY time I take any car in for any service...I do a walk around with service manager inside and out......then we both sign the ticket saying no damage...They think I am the biggest @ssh out there.....All service departments treat your car like a 71 pinto.....If you do a walk around they will treat it like a Caddy...

i love how we personify our titans - "Dealer Hurts Titan" as if it could feel pain....

We all feel the same way though i'm sure. I hate any mistreatment of my vehicles. great idea on the walk-around. the tow-truck driver wrote on his ticket "no damage" after i had to have the titan towed due to a crappy repair by the service tech.

raskm, i do the same thing as you with ever vehicle that i own. Dealerships are suppose to do it without you even asking them but they never do.

Firecracker- I was at Jones in NLR. Interesting news from them also - soon Jones will be no more. It will become North Point (North) Nissan. I don't think that the employess are real happy about it.

After many many vehicles I've found it to be faster, cheaper, and less stressful to just do all my own maintenance. It cuts out the middle mess.

Glad it turned out okay.

At least it was a cosmetic part that could be interchanged without paint!

Squid your are right....I try to do it all myself, but there is somethings you got to take it to the dealer. My wifes Mitsu is 5 years old...still not one door ding!! The only damage that came of that car was from the dealer..on several occasions. They wanted to see my TITAN for its first free oil change...I passed becuase I knew I would explode when I went to pick it up....Now if I am correct I can do all the scheduled maintenance if I document everything? After the Mitsu went in for most of the Scheduled maintenance I could not believe I payed some JACK@SS several hundred dollars to inspect my exhuast system....What a waste!!

Sir you are correct.Keep your receipts for oil, filters etc and then I always write the date and mileage on the back of the receipt when I do the maintenance.
Then I'll fill out the correct page in the Service and Maintenance Guide, and staple the receipt to the page.
And I'm sooooo very mistrustful of big bussiness that I make sure I don't use the same pen every time I fill out the page.

And when I have to have things done like a Tranny flush etc. I never leave my vehicle unattended I always take a book and wait.
Luck to ya.

i dont save my receipts but do write down the mileage in the book. if there were some catastrophic failure, they could do an oil analysis to determine if it was old oil or not. but that is a good idea on keeping receipts.

Well, I am fortunate to have a brother who is a mechanic at a tire shop in springfield and he would be the only one who touches my baby. the dealer visit will ONLY be for warranty work.

I don't mind taking my vehicles to get serviced by the dealer, or (as with my now gone Tahoe) certain oil changing places. I just make sure that I'm either hanging around the bay within eye sight or actually talking to the person doing the work. Knock wood, I haven't had any problems with loose bolts, etc. Plus, I don't have to worry about getting rid of the old oil, grease, filters. etc.. Except for this little incident, things have gone well.

Firecracker - just heard a new Jones Nissan commerical that confirms he's selling out - I just hope that they don't shut down the NLR location - it's a pain to drive accross town to get service done.
