Tail-gate - why not sprayed?

I've got an '05 with the factory spray-in liner. Why didn't they spray the tailgate also instead of the plastic piece?

I've wondered this myself. Also every other spray in liner has a lifetime warranty. Nissan is proud of their factory liner yet I've never heard of time frame that it's covered for.

I kind of like the plastic liner on my tailgate. It has a couple cup holders that come in handy but, also..ever tried to slide your butt off a tailgate that's been sprayed? Not easy to do. I don't think you need the tailgate sprayed. It can easily be replaced if needed. I can't say the same about the bed itself.

I was wondering that too - I wish it was sprayed from the factory because when i'm loading/unloading motorcycles, there's better grip with spray in when I need to use the front brake.

Has anyone taken the platstic off? I thought I saw some pics that showed the tailgate isnt solid under the plastic somewhere

And if it was sprayed instead of the super thick plastic thingy, there wouldn't be a full 1 inch difference between the bed floor and the tailgate. I would really like it if my tailgate and bed floor were the same level. What a P.I.T.A!

I have wondered the same thing. Seems like it shouldn't be too hard to take that plastic thing off and have the gate sprayed. (but then I would lose the cupholders! )

I say spray it. Screw the cupholders, useful or not, it's fruity. WTF are they doing in the TAILGATE anyway? At any rate, can't you just secure the plastic thingy and have the liner sprayed OVER it? You wouldnt lose your cupholders that way and it will be protected and match. WTF are they doing on a tailgate? Did i ask that already?

I would try it, but I'm going racing this weekend...no time. Maybe next week, unless someone here (gotta be!) knows already

I doubt you could secure the plastic piece and spray over it; plastic expands and contracts somewhat with temperature and also gets brittle so I would expect that in a short time your spray would be cracking all over the place.

Believe it or not, but they are handy for setting your beer down while working out of the back of the truck or just hangin out/tailgating. Most tailgates have enough flat surface to be ok with a long neck, but the tall ribs on the plastic piece are narrow and it is easy to spill a beer if you aren't careful. But I wouldn't miss them if i had the tailgate sprayed and level with the bed floor. Did I mention the height difference of the tailgate and the bed floor?

Question

Did anybody spray the tailgate? If yes, can you post some pictures?

TIA

Ah...the thin ribs, yeah those are easy to spill stuff on. My old man has them on his regular plastic bedliner, they suck too.

Kind of hard to spray the tailgate as if you removed the plastic there you will see a lot of it is 'open' in order to access the handle and locking mechanism.

I removed the plastice liner in the bed and tailgate to have the Rhino liner sprayed. It wasn't a big deal. I'm glad I did it.

Sorry, I don't have any pics.
