I live in upstate New York, three blocks fromLake Ontario, so we get bombed with snow - especailly when the wind blows across the lake - I've never put any weight in any of my trucks, F-150, Titan, Ram, - as longs as you have a 4x4 and a decent set of tires (I've never bought snow tires either) you should be good to go

I'm watching the news right now - we're at -10 degrees - great - here we go - bust out the snow blower - 9+ inches tonight.

I have driven 4x4's for years in the mountains, in places with steep cliffs and drop offs and have never had a problem. I have never added weight in the back to a 4x4.

The biggest thing is use some common sense. Just because it's a 4wd doesn't mean you can cruise at 65 in a snowstorm, or slam on the brakes 10 feet before you need to stop. For the most part you can even get by with 2wd with common sense.

Unfortunately, common sense obviously doesn't come standard on most car purchases today, because many of the people I see on the roads are driving without it.I can't even count how many people I have seen in snowstorms, when I'm in my 4wd truck doing 40mph in 4wd, flying by me with rear wheel drive vehicles. And how many I've later come up on sitting in the ditch.

nico, first and foremost E-A-G-L-E-S! Go Eagles!

I'm right with ya with the up and coming snow but I do not need to get anywhere but I know that the Titan did great the other day with the 3" we had. I was VERY impressed with the stopping of the truck. Everyone always mentions that if you have 4WD you can get going but you still can't stop any faster and to a degree I would agree but this truck stops on the white stuff quite nicely. I purposely did some panic stops just to find it's limits and was surprised at how well it maintained traction.

Whether it's 3" or 12" the roads are still slick, heck I think more snow is better personally, more to grip but you will not need to put anything in the bed. As stated by other members, throwing snow in the back never hurts either. Just throw a shovel in your bed and use if you feel you need it.

This topic however raises a question that I'd like to get opinions or facts on. With the advanced electronics our trucks have does traction get pushed to the wheels that need it? If this should be the case then I would think that adding weight would be kind of useless as the truck would adjust itself.

Well I'm in MD and I will be driving home in it today.

I didn't add any weight (Well there is a 50 lbs bag of dog food in the back and 50 pound back of salt in the bed) I'm just worried about taking turns and the rear fish-tailing. This is my first pickup and the last little bit of snow we had I was taking turns at a snails pace because I know the its so light back there. With 4wd ingaged does it help counter fish tailing action.

I'm in S.E. MA and we are expecting 18-24" (depending on which channel you listen to) by tomorrow. One forecaster even said we "might" get up to 30". Looking forward to getting out in it. This is only my second 4x4 but I have never added any weight in the bed and never felt like it needed it. Just take it easy. If you still feel like you want some extra weight, park it outside durin the storm and let mother nature fill the bed for you.

I imported it from Memphis to Oklahoma, I needed it to get accross Arkansas, it still took me 20 hours to get home (usually takes just under 7)...

We had a foot or so of snow a couple weeks ago, then extreme cold. I just happened to pick up a half cord of wood. I drove around with it for a couple days till I unlaoded it. What I noticed was that I didn't need 4wd near as much getting in and out of my neighborhood, that wasn't plowed.

I did have to go thru a spot where the city plow pushed up snow next to my property to put the wood where I wanted it, and as I had posted in another thread, the worst part was breaking the license plate bracketwhich is poorly placed!

I do think putting a couple hundred pounds of weight may keep one from having to go in and out of 4wd on those questionable roads. Additionally, mileage IMHO really suffers for every mile you are in 4wd, as my last tank indicated.

Your right about the mileage. A couple weeks ago I had to drive in 4HI for a whole tank and my MPG was reduced by 3 MPG. OUCH!

Cool Driving in snow

I was driving in the snow today for the first time, I gotta tell you this thing is a beast in the snow. I've only had the truck for 1 week and I am more pleased with this truck everyday I drive it . Took my son to a vacant lot full of snow and went hog crazy on the throttle. We did donuts, slid around abit and had a great time, wow what a toy I feel like im a teenager again. This is the best $33000, Ive ever spent. I have a BMW in the Garage and thats where it has stayed since I bought this great truck!!

05 Titan LE, CC BTW soon to have K&N charger ,and Dual exhaust, Headers

Blizzard in Penn...HOLY CRAP. I was visiting Penn State with my parents.....we leave to go back on Rt 80E to Jersey and it was just starting so we figured....no biggie. One hour later we tried to get off and stay at hotel...all booked...wouldnt even let people hang out in lobby for a while to get warm. So back in the Chevy blazer...eew, onto Rt 80E where we ended up PARKING FOR THE NIGHT IN THE BLIZZARD. The entire road was closed. No body could get on or off the highway you were just sitting there stopped. I will never forget what a freaking nightmare that was.

I'm out on Long Island where they are calling for 20+ inches. I was just out in the Mighty Titan and it was romping through the snow like childs play. This was probably with about 8+ inches down already. I had no weight in the back and was pulling up inclines from a dead stop like the snow wasn't there. Just go easy and you'll be fine.

I too spent part of the day f--king around in the snow here in Pa. In 2WD with the traction control a Titan goes well, in 4WD Hi it's great--even up hill as someone else pointed out earlier. Much better than my old Ranger.
