Hi..I have a 4x4 Titan no big tow or off road. Does anyone know if it is wise to put some weight in the bed to give it better ytraction in the snow and how much weight would be enough? I was thinking about 10 (50lb) bags of gravel would do the trick since we are expecting 12 inches by Sun morning and i NEED TO GET TO WORK..Please help
I am going with 400lbs of sand. Its probably not needed as I have a 4x4 as well. The only thing that worries me is going from snow/ice to plowed/dry and then to black ice where I thought it was dry. In that case I would just be in 2wd and the weight would help.
with the 4x4 you wont get stuck, or even drift around or anything. Just take it east out there. 500lbs should be more then enough, especially if you have the 4 door. Do you live in New York, on the island?
I've never put any extra weight in the bed, and my 4wd has worked like a charm. Like Batman229 said, just take it easy and don't drive like a nut. I'm up in the Boston area, so I'll have to drive in the snow on Sunday morning, too...I'm looking forward to it.
I always scoop up some snow in the bed, it melts itself out, so you dont have to worry about a sandy mess if a bag breaks. This is nice if you have to scoop a porch, sidewalk, driveway, because you might as well throw it in the bed of the truck...
My Titan is only 2wd though. I would reccomend some weight in the back no matter if you have 4wd or not, just from personal experience. Always keep a fairly full tank too (fill up at 1/2 empty)...
EDIT: Picture 2 makes the truck look like its squatting, but I'm pretty sure its the drive. Too much weight in the back will make the front too light, I was taught its best to keep it over the axle and forward, anything aft the axle takes weight off the front end...
Also if your wondering why there is no snow anywhere besides the back of my truck. Its because I imported it from memphis to oklahoma, arkansas was as BIG slick mess. Pictures were shot in Oklahoma, I had lots of people ask my "where'd you get that from?" I kept thinking, well look at the Kentucky plates, though I live in TN now KY got 12 inches from that same storm...

I've had 4x4s for years and have never put weight in the back. I drove in the blizzard of 96 in Penn., white outs in Canada, done off roading in a foot of snow, and never added weight. Thats what four wheel drive is for. I did find with the Titan if you nail the pedal you can get a killer drift out of it.

Just drove over 500 miles (got a ticket for driving faster then the conditions dictated) 2 weeks ago in the snow, sleet, and ice. The truck needs no weight.
SmokenTitan: How'd you get all that snow in your truck, everything else in the picture looks dry. It's just a funny picture, seems like you made the snow yourself. hehe
smokentitan, that's just brilliant!!! wish i had a 4x4, i will trade it in for a 4x4 crewcab SuperTitan in say 2008... i wonder if they'll have a diesel then or 6.6 liter Titans, haha like the old smokey and the bandit trans-ams but with 32Valve DOHC pushing a normally-aspirated 495 horses!!!
The Titan 4x4 needs nothing in the bed. I just came through the mess we had in Raleigh on Wednseday and the Titan was great. I bought the 4x4 for the beach/dunes and Christmas trips to NY.
